After reading such glowing reviews my wife and I were very excited about trying out such a fantastic restaurant that delivers. I know the build up means it had a lot to live up to but the fact is we were very disappointed.
To get to the point the portions were small and shockingly bland. I am not a "burn my mouth I love that" kinda guy and I generally usually enjoy my food thoroughly but we were both expecting a full and scrumptious meal but got neither.
The house special Kebab was a tiny selection of mouth sized mixed meaty bites that when they arrived honestly looked like someone must have eaten half of it before I got it! The morsels although beautifully tender and soft lacked taste and gusto. My wife's samosas - again small - lacked a flair and taste. The mains although creamy and rich again lacked actual taste and depth. Rice is rice and thankfully no screw up there!
Overall I would never go there again for even less famous restaurants that charge less seem to be able to deliver on the prime ingredient of taste.

An appalling evening of food and service. I tried to complain about the runny, oily madras sauce which was pretty tasteless. They didn't want to know! Even Gordon Ramsay would struggle with the stubborn staff who think their food is great! I would recommend to stay clear! It's very expensive for the rubbish they serve up, staff have no people skills and will not accept criticism and I'm still so angry at having to pay for the meal!

Awful awful awful. This place serves food that is not fresh (it tastes like it was heated up in the microwave. The waitress was okay, but I could hear the chef blaspheming in the kitchen and being rude to his staff. Not pleasant.
The burrito was big, but had far too much cheese, as did the starter of quasadillas, which made me want to vomit.
I would NOT advise anyone to go here. Find another Mexican restaurant!

As an expatriate Edinburgh boy based in Johannesburg, SA, I do try to get back to "The Steading" as often as possible.
I love it.
Good food, great beer - especially the Deuchars - and a wonderful atmosphere make it a tremendous family type dining treat.

If you like warm prosecco and more peppercorns in your pizza than cheese than this is your place! It's a shame as the interior is lovely. I would say that and the coffee are the best things going for it. When I complained about the peppercorns the staff couldn't care less. I'll never go back!

Having first used Shanaz a couple of years ago the opportunity to revisit this tiny takeaway presented itself on Saturday night. As jcaughey mentions the kitchen is actually open so you can watch your food being cooked while you wait - and the chef getting his cuppa brewed for him! :) The food took around 20 minutes to cook and was tasty and pleasantly spicy. Our shared chicken chat was tangy and my main of garlic chicken was gorgeous, really full of herby flavour and not just over-poweringly garlic. A good prod of chilli and a light, non-greasy sauce. T'other half's lamb was beautifully tender and, judging by the speed which it was devoured, pressed all the right buttons. A nice touch were the foiled bags which the naan bread was packed in - they stopped our naan from going cold on the way home, as so often happens. They have some interesting dishes at Shanaz which we're eager to try (especially the Mexican/Indian crossover dish!) so I think it's safe to say that we'll be back. Not sure it will ever wean me completely off Monsoon, but Shanaz is a hidden gem deserving of high praise!

I'll keep this review short. If you're Italian then I wouldn't order any pasta especially a Carbonara as they added chilli in mine (I wasn't impressed). Pizza is ok, nothing special. A real let down, but if you want somewhere nice to sit then it's the place to go.

We decided to try this restaurant after a 10 mile walk and were starving. We got a table in the aisle. Firstly the menu was huge and to actually read it would take up a substantial amount of time, however the waitress showed little patience and was eager to get the order in. We ordered chicken and prawn pakora as starters which were dry and a bit bland. The waiters were overly keen to whip away the plates when we had barely finished. The young waitress paced up and down the restaurant much more than it was necessary and we felt like we were being watched the whole time. The main dishes of chicken jalfrezi and chicken korma were quite tasty but again the atmosphere created by the over bearing waiters made the experience unpleasant. We felt rushed we didn't even get to examine the bill properly when the manager hurried over and asked if everything was ok. The bill was very pricey at 45 pounds for two people and we only had one soft drink. It seemed like a family run business, members of which appeared tired and bored and were seeing their customers as numbers rather than people.
