Went here for a pre-festival show dinner last week and have to say the service completely let it down. We had a table booked for 7pm and you think that would be enough time for a show at 9pm but we were running out the door to get there on time. It took 45 minutes to get our food order taken which was a bit ridiculous, food being served too an age as well. When it did come it was good - I have a Swiss chicken burger and it was good but as we ended up only having about 10 minutes to wolf down a burger it did leave it tasting not that great. I appreciated that it was busy but most people were there just for a drink and not eating so no excuse for service that slow.

The bar staff did not seem well trained - when asking what the house wine was they could only reply with white. They didnt know what type of wine it was and had to come and ask several times what we actually wanted.

Would go back if I was in the area but wouldnt cross town for it

Went here for a work lunch a couple of weeks ago. The table had been booked so when we arrived it was all set out ready for us. It's a trendy bar at night but seems quite light and airy in the day, with a variety of different tables from sofas to booths to standard seated tables. They also have plenty of outdoor seating in the summer.

I chose one of the specials of pate with sticky onion. Many of the others chose varying types of flatbreads and I think a chicken burger.

The pate was delicious and there was plenty of it. The sticky onion was sweet and tasty. It really complimented the pate. It came with toast and a salad. The plateful was more than enough for lunch and came in at about £8. The flatbreads that almost everyone else ordered were also of a generous portion and were all enjoyed. The quality of the food seemed high and very fresh.

Although it took a little while for the food to come out, we were still only in there for about an hour. It averaged £10 a person including drinks and a tip, so not too bad for a lunch. Service was polite and friendly. I'm not sure if this will be the same for dinner but I can definitely recommend for lunch.

This is my local so I was interested as to what the refurb and change of hands would be like. It didn’t disappoint – the décor is stylish and the food menu is varied and appealing. The drinks menu has a unique touch and specialises in lots of different types of gins; being a gin drinker I appreciated this and was keen to give some of them a try.

I have only eaten once here and tried the all day breakfast for £7. It was slightly disappointing – it took quite a long time to arrive and, when it did, it was slightly cold. Personally, I thought it had far too many beans and not enough of the yummier things such as sausages, eggs, bacon etc.

On the contrary, friends have been very impressed with their lunch and dinner menus so I will definitely go back and give them a try.

We visited 56 North on the back of a voucher for two breakfasts for £9. We phoned and they reserved one of the booths for us. The booths are nicely set out, giving us some privacy even though the bar was quite busy. Unlike some booths, you can actually reach the table to eat your meal whilst being able to get in and out without any effort.

Breakfast included two sausages, two bacon, two fried eggs, haggis, black pudding, hash brown, mushrooms, beans, toast and tea or coffee. Food was cooked fresh and was very tasty. We asked for the bacon to be crispy and they took us at our word. The streaky bacon was very crispy. Particularly enjoyed the black pudding, whilst the sausage was thoroughly cooked, we would have preferred it a wee bit crispier for our taste. Probably just nit picking as it was all really tasty. Sauces come in nice wee jars. We noticed that chips are served in wee chip pan baskets, which is a nice touch. The coffee was good, and they allowed us to swap one of the teas for diet coke. To improve their fare, we would suggest that they could swap the hash browns for tattie scones. Make it more of a Scottish breakfast.

Service was good, the waiter being friendly but not in your face. His recommendation of a beer, blue moon, was good, but the price for a pint seemed a wee bit dear at £4.25.

We would recommend 56 North for a nice breakfast. Good value with a voucher, not sure about the near £10 price though.

I noticed this bar had changed hands last week so went in for a drink with a friend last night. Admittedly we didn't have anything to eat, so can't comment there. The menu looked appealing, if perhaps slightly pricey for bar food in this part of town.

It has hardly changed from the Human Be-in. New decor, but the layout's identical - it still doesn't have much atmosphere and we left after one drink and went to Assembly. The most obvious and least welcome change is a huge TV on the wall on the left as you enter. Last night it was playing the Rangers game at high volume. Really classy.

I might go back some time and try the food, but I'm not in a hurry to. I'll update my review then.

I went past this new place at the weekend. Seeing it was very busy went in with my partner. We had a meal and a few drinks. I had the koftas, my partner had the steak. Didn't wait very long at all and the food was fantastic. Shame the service let them down.

Delicious food menu at great prices. Haven't experienced a delay with the food or bad service. Chilled out and unpretentious. Ideal place for drinks or food, day or night.

Food was cold when arrived after a long wait. Did not accept my spree discount voucher even though I showed them when I first ordered, apparently I had to buy something on the menu at £8 even though most places will discount the value of £8 from the bill.

The only saving grace was their Sky HD Football.

Had a great dinner for me and my friends. The place has clearly had effort spent on it as the food and drinks were well presented and the service was very good. The only small down side was as the sun went down it was cold with the outdoor windows open. £3.50 cocktails is also a major plus point. I'll be back.

Amazing how this place has been revived. Really stylish and comfortable with a wide ranging food & drinks menu. Lots of choices well prepared and presented. Great eats and good value, I'll certainly be back.

I found this place to be pretentious and lacking in much atmosphere. It wasn't very busy when we visited but it took an age to get served because the only person behind the bar took so long to make a couple of cocktails. When we were eventually served, I found the bar person to be abrupt and when I asked to add a drink to my order after I had paid for the round, I was made to feel like a naughty school boy. Not impressed.

Wow - what a change.

Having studied at George Sq just over the road for four years I was used to the drab and unimpressive Human Be-In, and kept with it for convenience alone.

What a relief that someone finally saw the potential in the venue and gave it the make over it deserved. Everything from the service, the food and drinks menu has improved ten fold and this laid back and welcoming venue is certainly close to becoming my new home from home!!!

As a student regular eating around the area this is definitely one of my favourites. The food is consistantly good and the portions are generous. 241 cocktails in the evening is always a bonus. If you are a student on a budget it is always a good option.

This is my 3rd visit to 56 North and every time I have been extremely disappointed. I vowed last time never to be back but I was persuaded by the sun seats outside however I will never be back! Food is certainly not home made, I received a cajun chicken burger with a huge bone in it, the cajun spices were flung on to what seemed like a pre-prepared plain chicken breast, bun was stale! For such a simple dish, such a discrace! My friend ordered the beef burger which was once again full of grit and served in an extremely stale bun!

The price of food is extremely expensive for this pre-prepared rubbish, not to mention the drinks!!! The plate had massive amounts of coleslaw on it, despite stating I don't like mayonnaise! Disgraseful, disgusting and disappointing!
