Amarone, 13 St Andrew Square, EH2 2AF, Edinburgh

I had dinner at Amarone with my partner yesterday evening. We had a table in the restaurant part. The room looks impressive with its high ceiling. Unfortunately it was very noisy, we could hardly hear each other. Our starters were very nice,my partner had the minestrone soup wich he said was delicious, I had the scallops which were really nice too. We were not as lucky with our choice of mains. My partner got the calzone pizza, he said the pastry was delicious and the filling was good too except for the ham which was very salty. Salt was also a problem with my main. I had a plate of pasta with prawns, pancetta and peas. It was nice but a bit spoilt by the fact that it was extremely salty, I could ony eat half of it. We decided to order liquors instead of dessert and ordered a bayleys and a frangelico. We were quite shocked when the waiter brought our liquors and the bill at the same time, even though we had not asked for it. It was only 9:30 and our booking confirmation stated we could keep the table until 10. We thought it was very rude.

It was a shame because until that point the service had been faultless.
