Amicus Apple, 17 Frederick Street, EH2 2EY, Edinburgh
This is across the road from Millets where the Frederick st bar used to be. Also it's below Boudiche for those of you who fancy some lingerie shopping. Mobbed in the evenings - unless you want to eat dinner in a drunken bar - it's only good for lunch.
Popped in here twice recently for lunch as the filling station was mobbed (! - I like their pizza). So far I've had the burger, sausage and mash and sampled a pal's steak sandwich. Always been around £20 for grub/beer. Always been tasty and enjoyable lunch fare. Hard to go wrong really.
Bad bits: Lack of atmos - guaranteed seats I suppose.
It's right around the corner from my work so I'll definitely be going again - no complaints. Safe enough for what it is.
Also it's pretty prompt. I've never been late back to work after eating there.

I ate here after I saw an offer on 5pm.com (sorry to swear!)
It is more of a bar than a restaurant but I was pleasantly surprised as the food was very good and the staff were efficient (as well as easy on the eye - in fact, everyone that drinks in the establishment are noticeably good looking).
The dining area is really small, with only 10 or so tables, but if you want to eat somewhere central with a queiter and more intimate atmosphere Amicus Apple is a good choice.

I went to Amicus Apple for lunch on Saturday with a friend. I booked through this website using Top Table which was quick and convenient. ;)
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at AA. The service was excellent, very friendly and quick. I’m glad we booked because it seemed quite busy, lots of Saturday shoppers stopping by for food.
We both had a couple of cocktails – one of them the mango crush which was amazing!!! For food we opted for the foccacia with different dips, humous, pesto, olive oil – the bread was fresh and warm still and the dips were obviously all home made and excellent.
For our main, we both had sandwiches – I had cheese and pickle on granary bread which was very good and my colleague had a BLT which she assured me was also excellent! The only down side was the side order of homemade coleslaw: it tasted like mayonnaise and not much else!
The meal including the 2 lots of cocktails we had came to £37 – it was really good and I would recommend it for lunch.
If you like this, try Sygn bar at the West end, next to Indigo Yard (their cocktails are just as good!)

Went here for lunch a week or so ago. The place lacks in atmosphere I think. We were not there for a full lunch, just a main and some wine. My roasted salmon was roasted a little too well, tangy sauce served with it was just okay. The fillet itself was quite a small portion and with a price tag of around £7-8 for that one dish, I would expect more... however my friend ordered the risotto which looked much more appetising and she said tasty really good - more generous portion which she did not finish. Service was okay, I have had worse. I guess I ordered wrong... so in summary fine for a quick lunch if you are in a hurry.

went to Amicus Apple for a birthday dinner a couple of months back now. Food was surprisingly good and the cocktails were something else. Jack Daniels and apple juice - strange but nice. The only let down and a big one and that was the service - 30 minutes for our starters and only 4 of the 6 arrived. Waitress disappeared for 15 minutes and eventually managed to flag her down, she made no apologies for the mistake and brought out the starter with the main courses. Not the best but I think I'd be prepared to give this place a second chance if only for the cocktails.
