I am not a veggie, but I love this restaurant. The staff are so friendly and the food is exceptional. Whether you are a vegetarian or not, this place is worth visiting.

Really great food and C Scott is right - the atmosphere is great and you feel like part of the family. The menu is brilliant and the mixed platters are gorgeous. And the homemade mango ice-cream... mmmnnn :)

This is a great restaurant. The starters are extremely good as there is a huge range and are tasty. I really recommend this, even if you're not a vegetarian I'm sure you could appreciate it. The staff are really very nice and amazing food. Really high quality.

I was extremely disappointed after having seen the good reviews above. As soon as we walked in, we noticed the disorganized and tacky decor. We were also asked for reservations even though there was nobody in the restaurant. After taking our seats, the staff was pushy to the point of rudeness. The food arrived far too quickly to have been made to order, and although decent, was nothing I couldn't have prepared in my own student kitchen. It was definitely overpriced for what it offered, and definitely will not be returning.

Upon welcome we were greeted with excellent manor and real sense of belonging. Very friendly staff homely atmosphere and the food was phenomenal. Out of my 2 week stay in Edinburgh one fond memory I will take back to France is the true taste of Indian food. My children were made to feel welcome and our whole family will definitely be back next year to dine.

I used a voucher here when Ann Purna reopened after a refurb. I found the staff to be incredibly warm and friendly, chatty and attentive. I was offered free drinks as the wine I ordered was not in stock. The food was simply amazing. I have spent time in India and always feel a little short changed in 'Indian' restaurants in the UK. Ann Purna was a completely different experience. The quality and individuality of the food make this a must for veg and non-veg alike, and is a true taste of India. I will definitely be going again, and taking more people! The fact I used a voucher did not detract from the service I received, which was superb.

I was very disappointed with this restaurant and embarrassed to have taken friends there. We were a table of 12 and waited half an hour to see a menu even though there was only one other table in. The main course was the same size as a side dish, the food was cold and undercooked and the vegetables were obviously from a frozen mixed bag. I have never seen a curry consisting of peas, sweetcorn and diced carrot before! Many of the listed ingredients were missing and the service was poor. When we requested to see the manager we were ignored. It was obvious that the staff realised we were a group of students and thought we wouldn't know any better but I've had a better curry at home with sauce from a jar!

I recently visited this restaurant and the food they served was too salty. Staff were not helpful and I wouldn't recommend anyone to visit this restaurant.

Was visiting Edinburgh with friends and spotted this restaurant on our way into town. We were a group of 8 hadn't booked but pleasantly surprised with a very friendly and warm welcome which is a rarity from where we're from in Leeds. With only 3 of us Veggies wondered whether it would suit us all but looking through the menu good selection of all local veg and curries relative to India very pleased with our curries, Thalies and all starters ordered we had no issues with friendly and really helpful staff as some curies we didn't know what they were. Milli Julli mixed veg was a great delight as well as Matar reingna peas and aubergine according to my gujarati friend who was with us this is a tradition dish with peas.

Sad to see previous comments on our experience we were pleased and happy with food and will definitely be back for buffet lunch tomorrow.

Brilliant - If you're in Edinburgh don't miss out on this restaurant. The Thali is to die for, and we found the service warm and friendly. 5-stars from us!

Every time I'm up from Manchester visiting my parent we always eat here. I have to be honest Ive never been disappointed by food or staff - we only ate here 2 days ago. Restaurant was clean, friendly and most importantly had excellent food. Will be back at Christmas. I have highly recommended to friends and family and the thali is not to be missed.

Having enjoyed a lovely thali at Ann Purna three years ago, I was very disappointed by my most recent visit. The thali itself was pretty good, however there were little brown ants on the table (in December! where did they come from?), the salad garnish on my pakora / samosa looked whithered and at least a few days old. Hubby's looked a bit more recent - do they reuse garnishes? Add to this we were charged £2.40 per head for a poppadom...

Ann Purna has great food and after a few visits you feel like part of the family. Even though it is veggie, the menu is quite varied and long. Really friendly and nice relaxed atmosphere.
