Baan Thai, 20A Leopold Place, EH7 5LB, Edinburgh
I love thai and seeing a new thai restaurant on the bus home we decided to try it out. First impressions as you go into the basement restaurant were good, the smells as you entered were amazing and the decor inside is absolutely gorgeous. Both rooms were set up immaculately and it looked very welcoming.
For starter I had thai vegetable parcels which were morish and left me wanting more. My partner had tempura veg which again was lovely and the chilli dips which accompanied both were just right, not too hot.
Mains were great too, chicken with basil, peppers, onions, garlic was plentiful and spiced just right. The thai green curry was good but could have been a little more spicey. The dessert menu was big and I opted for a lovely banana split and my partner had chocolate truffle with ice cream. Not traditional thai desserts but very welcomed as were freshly prepared and not the usual frozen desserts often received in other thais.
Will be going back for sure, if only to sample the thai veg parcels again and to try the thai red curry next time. This is a new restaurant and I really hope it stays open, its a little out of the way on London road but only a 2 min walk from the playhouse and a lot of restaurants which are frequented only because of their proximity to the theatre, not their food quality.
Walk that little bit further and try Baan Thai, you won't regret it. Beautiful.

Fantastic! The red curry is just amazing and it is great to see interesting meat-free alternatives without tofu! The staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is great. I would recommend it to anyone that loves Thai food. I have tried a good few Thai restaurants and this one just hits the spot.
