Largely as a result of my drinking companions, the banter on my visit here was superb until, after 6 or so hours, it descended into an alcohol fuelled haze, which included us drinking the pub out of IPA.
To eat I had squewers of beef with pita bread and rice. It was pretty tasty, but that was largely down to it being smothered in bought in (I am almost certain of this) sweet chilli dipping sauce. I experienced an extreme episode of food envy as one of my friends ordered a starter portion of haggis, neaps and tatties for the modest sum of £4.75 - the portion that did arrive would have passed as a main course in many establishments. The IPA battered fish also look pretty tasty.
All in, not a bad place to spend an evening with mates, although I reckon Cloisters nearby has a better atmosphere and a better selection of ales.

This place has recently been renovated and althought I had obviously opened it up to a wider audience I think it may still lack some atmosphere. As mdavidson says you may be better going to Cloisters. I haven't eaten here but going for a drink it is a great place to go to. The bar staff were super friendly although this could be due to our chat having been out most of the day.
Much better than what it was but still needs to build a bit of atmosphere which I think it will over time.

Very good food - if you are prepared to wait for it. Just experienced a 40 minute wait for a 'quick' lunch. The waiter didn't take our feedback well, claiming they were very busy! There were 4 other customers in when we arrived!
Still a good lunch and a well placed pub. But can't afford a 40 minute wait at lunch time, so probably won't be back.

Went for a work day/night out here last week, the food was great. Steak was perfectly cooked excellent value for money. The atmosphere and friendliness off the staff was flawless definitely will be going back.
