If EdinburghMenus was a pub review site, this would undoubtedly be a 4 or even 5 star review. Bennet's bar is a great proper boozer with a good range of beers, a real fire and an amazing old wooden bar.

Unfortunately, the food is pretty poor. We went in on Sunday for a quick, cheap lunch. It was quick (it worryingly arrived less than 5 minutes after ordering) and cheap (£5.95 for the Sunday roast) but unfortunately it was just pretty poor quality bland and unexciting food. It filled the hole in our bellies and if we'd been in for a boozy session it might just have hit the spot but unfortunately we left feeling unsatisfied.

It hasn't made me think much less of Bennet's though. It's still a great bar. Just go and enjoy the beer and get your food elsewhere.

A proper pub, this place has a good old fashioned feel - wooden panelling, leather seats etc... It has locals in it and so you know it must be good. As i'm not a beer drinker I cannot comment on the beverages on offer - except to say that they don't have Addleston's Cloudy Cider, which they should get! It has a dining area out the back which is a brighter room.

This place is great for a quick pre- or post- theatre drink (it is right next to the King's Theatre), or to sit in the corner all evening with an old friend and catch up.

Agree entirely with Andy. I arrived needing some sort of food while watching and entirely unsatisfying game between Ireland and Wales in the Six nations. Decided to have a burger and chips to keep me going while I supped my pint of Hugh.

Burger took a while but I was in no hurry and arrived - very home made looking and tasting - cost 6 quid - 5 on a sunday apparently. Very nice, enjoyable. Great, fresh chips to go with it. Little bit of salad (uneaten). All in all ideal for what I wanted.

Then they brought out pies (if only I'd known) - first pie- lovely, second pie - cold. Not to worry - all very lovely and perfect for having a pint in a proper boozer. Shame about the rugby.

Bennets is simply sooooperb!!! The atmosphere is so mixed and authentic you cannot fail to have a good time. The choice of whiskeys from the original Wooden Gantry are out of this world. The pint of Deuchars IPA is probably the best in Auld Reekie ... and beyond!!! The big screen came down for the Big Game and then away afterwards with background music playing. NO headbanging or Take That to be heard. Loved it and recommend you take a look... sooner rather than later!!!
