Great place for good value early evening suppers. Food is very tasty and well cooked. Let down by decor, could do with a little facelift, it all looks a bit tired.

Well-priced menu that delivers good value with slick service.

There is a varied choice of interesting dishes with a European emphasis. Ideal for lunch or dinner on a budget.

Lovely lunch. Very reasonable offer, great location near university and royal mile. Would definitely go back.

B'est, 16 Drummond Street, EH8 9TX, Edinburgh

Terrible service, the head waiter in particular who seemed to think abusing the young girls who work there in front of the diners makes him look important. What a sad case.

Food was boring, decor very strange and shabby and tables were too cramped.

Was like a bad 70's dining experience.

Avoid at all costs imo.

Food was good waiters were pleasant but when we asked why the menu we were presented with was not the one from the web page a very unpleasant manager told us they had not had time to change it. Because of his rudeness we will not be going back there.

The food is okay and the prices are reasonable but the service is not just bad but actively aggressive and confrontational.

The last time I went there - and it will be the last time - the head waiter/ owner was extremely abusive with me for no reason, when I was giving him money! I asked him if he had a card-reading machine (a fairly normal way of introducing that I was going to pay by card) and he replied several times 'I should have' in an aggressive tone of voice. At first I thought he was joking but he didn't stop and then when I paid the bill he stared directly into my eyes as if we were in a pub and he wanted to fight me. He then shuffled about muttering 'card machine... of course... this is a business' and the like before shouting 'don't bother' when my companion and I were discussing - foolishly - whether to leave a tip or not.

Don't go to this restaurant unless you want a deeply unpleasant man to abuse you for your money.

If you like a taste of good food, this is the place to go but you will leave hungry. Ideal for people with a small appetite or a snack. The staff have an unpleasant attitude and this place can surely only survive on passing trade, I can't believe people would visit more than once.

I was surprised about the comments because I frequent this restaurant and is very good. The staff is very friendly and careful with the customers. The food is delicious and you can choose mediterranean or typical cuisine of Scotland. Don't be misguided by the comments and check it yourself!

Average French food - expensive and small portions - but disappointing service. We raised a query about our bill and were abused by the waitress, who equated a the price of the main course with a sweet. After they adjusted the bill, they wouldn't let us pay it until we said that we were stealing their food! (Ironically enough, the restaurant was hosting the Fawlty Towers experience - perhaps they learnt too much from Basil). I won't go again. They won't learn.
