I agree with peevee. This place is quirky with it's tree tables and chairs but shouting out the orders for you to go and collect really took the edge off the experience. The drinks are good and the food is about average. I had a tuna melt which was ok but seemed a bit expensive for what it was. There are deals available though which might make it better value for money. It's a nice enough place to stop for a coffee and always seems to be bustling. I think it also offers space to sit with laptops using their free wi-fi service, which is a bonus.
I recommend going in at least once, just to see what it's like inside.

I know this cafe since 1998 and it used to be a very nice coffee shop with a relaxed atomosphere. But when I went back a few month ago (after 8 years!), I found it was a totally different place. The staff there were not friendly. When they made the order, they just shout at you like, 'Small COFFEEEEEE!'. It's a bit like a slaughter house; us waiting to be called. Good wi-fi but I don't feel like going back soon.

i love the idea of black medicine, the decor is great and cosy, it always has a nice bustling atmosphere, but i hate the canteen feel given to it by all the shouting out of orders. The staff are also a bit abrupt, it would be nice if they were a bit friendlier. Maybe if they had numbers on tables and were able to deliver orders that way rather that shouting at the top of their voices every few minutes.

Had a croissant & coffee here for breakfast. The coffee was ok, but the croissant was dry and slightly burnt. Not a great start to an early Saturday morning.

Had a very small, mediocre coffee to go. Stayed for 3 minutes to talk to a friend and was then told rudely by a member of staff that I was not allowed to stay with a take away coffee.
If this is the attitude of this place then don't bother!

Super friendly staff, quite a variety of cakes and sweeties to have with your coffe (orange and chocholate cake - yummm), and healthy dose of chocolate sprinkled on your coffee makes you feel like you are right where you were supposed to be.
Place for people with the attitude.
