Not a bad place to eat out in the centre of town - the food is good quality though with the huge scale of the dining area it is never going to be spectacular. The staff are friendly and more competent than you might encounter elsewhere on George Street.

Browns is reliable, well located and always provides great service!
I have been to Browns on a few occasions and I recommend the Sunday roast for £10 - it is huge and very tasty.
Most recently, I had the steak which was £14 - no complaints. My dining partner had the steak pie which was very nice also. The service was great - the waitress was friendly and knew the menu well. Prices for mains vary from £8 - £20.
My only complaint is that it seems to be attracting more hen/stag parties.
Overall, if you are looking for guaranteed yummy food and somewhere in the middle of town I would definitely recommend Browns.

DEPENDABLE: THE VOLVO OF EDINBURGH RESTAURANTS
Browns like the reviewer above highlights offers a good standard of food at reasonable prices. I have eaten at this Browns several times in both small and large groups and both the food and service has been of a consistently high standard.
Browns being a chain is never going to be at the cutting edge of cuisine, but what you are guaranteed is that your food will be tasty and that there will be something on the menu to please everyone in your group. It is a fail safe option for entertaining picky relatives and friends alike.
The large dining area and mass of hard surfaces does tend to make it noisy, so it is perhaps not the most conducive location for an intimate date. Although, the one definite plus it has over many other restaurants is that there is a no reservation system, which is blessing if you have left it too late to get in elsewhere!
The bar is reasonably priced and the bathroom facilities are clean and large.

I like Browns and have enjoyed all the meals and drinks that I have had there. I have been three times so I guess I like it! You don't have to book which is a bonus, they serve crisp Italian beer and the staff and food are both wholesome and filling. Good robust meat dishes such as Venison with rich sauce dominate a menu that may appeal to carnivores more than those of the vegetarian persuasion. I feel that the menu leans towards warming wintery dishes with desserts such as sticky toffee pudding rather than lite bites for the summer.
Reasonably priced and thanks to it's no booking policy generally alive with a dull roar of conversation.

This is my default location for lunch in town with mum and dad, easy to direct the old dears to, top notch service, excellent food and a comfortable atmosphere. Ye cannae go wrong.

Browns is great. Nothing fancy with the food but it is good quality and really well priced. I have always left the place feeling happy and fulfilled. I like the outfits that the staff wear, it reminds me of being in Paris in the 50s, not that I was around back then, but I can imagine...

Can accomodate a work night out. Resonably priced and very able staff. They do that thing though, trying to posh something up by putting "Brown's" in the name. eg Brown's cheeseburger.
You ain't fooling me! It's just a nice cheesburger.
Still v good and will be visiting again.
