Café Andaluz, 77B George Street, EH2 3ES, Edinburgh

I was dubious when I first heard Andaluz was going to be a Tapas restaurant as Edinburgh, in my opinion, has failed to produce a Tapas restaurant of a good standard so far. However, Café Andaluz is conveniently situated opposite my work and since it opened two weeks ago I have been itching to give my new local a try.

Cafe Andaluz is quite deceiving – from the outside the restaurant looks small and cafe like but I was shocked as to how big and spacious it was inside. I loved the décor –bright and funky colours and each table has its own separate booth with plenty of space for you and your dining partner/s.

Service was fantastic – friendly, very efficient and very knowledgeable in regards to the food menu.

The food and prices, unfortunately, were a little bit of a let-down. When we first looked at the menu it was very appealing and there is certainly lots of choice for both meat lovers and vegetarians. My friend and I went for four tapas dishes (approx £5 each). When they arrived the dishes were nice (if a little tasteless) but quite small – I was left feeling quite hungry afterwards. The bill came to £15 each (with small glass of wine each and tip) - perhaps a little on the expensive side.

Overall, Café Andaluz is a very welcome addition to the Tapas scene in Edinburgh. I would return but I wouldn’t recommend to those who are after a really big feed!

Café Andaluz, 77B George Street, EH2 3ES, Edinburgh

Just had lunch here with 2 others. Rang ahead - nice cosy cushioned seats down the back (didn't fancy the tables in the front at all). Nice quality menus and fittings. Clearly they've looked into getting decent kit for the joint.

Ordered soft drinks and 3 dishes each along with plenty of bread. Lamb meatballs (spicy), creamy mushrooms, beef and rocket with parmesan, king prawns (my fave) and lots of other bits and pieces. I thought it was very tasty and straightforward. Very simple (isn't that the whole point with tapas).

My favourite was the mussels and close second being the beef and rocket. Whole thing for 3 with soft drinks and tip (meagre - we didn't have the same person for two parts of the meal - felt a bit impersonal, service was fine but forgettable) cost £50 on the nose.

We had plenty of grub, I thought the dishes were fine in size - could possibly had a lidish extra each.I'd go again certainly as it's a great option on George st.

Ps - there's some sort of counter in the front that looks vaguely like a coffee shop bit. This needs further exploration on my next trip.

For now 3.5 but I may revisit and revise my grading on this so far pleasant joint.

Had dinner here 2 nights ago for a friend's birthday and it was not as good as I expected. The portions are small, even for tapas, although the taste was good on most of the dishes. Service was pretty good. I think it's somewhat overpriced for the quantity of food, but wouldn't hesitate to go back for a coffee in the front section as the decor is nice.
