Cafe Grande, 184 Bruntsfield Place, EH10 4DF, Edinburgh
Went here to catch up with a friend and had intended to just stay for a drink. But it's such a nice little place that we stayed to eat. I had a duck dish with crushed potatoes and stuff. Very nice.
The cakes and dessserts are on display and look too good to refuse. I had banoffee pie which didn't disappoint. We ended up spending over 3 hours there but never felt like they wanted to us to leave to free up the table.
Apparently there's live jazz on one night of the week too if you like that kind of thing.

For a friendly cafe with pavement seating in the summer, this place is hard to beat. Like the other review, a good place for a hangover fry up, or for a catch up with an old friend over a nice mug of hot chocolate.

Went here late afternoon today, mainly because the Merlin lunch experience had been so terrible!!! Have been here before and always enjoyed in - very cosy, friendly staff and AMAZING cake... Sunday heaven. We only ordered coffee and cake and whilst not cheap, it was delish. I had choc cheesecake - not too rich and Ian had apple pie - lovely... Not eaten dinner here yet but it looks lovely so will review next time! Much nicer than Monties over the road which is over rated...

I am on the look out for the perfect hang over fry up. This comes close - good portion - Newspapers - orange juice and coffee thrown in.

As most of the reviews have already said, this place is great for a wee natter with an old mate. Its relaxed atmosphere means you can sit for ages with a cup of tea and some rocky road cake (delish!). Although it appears very cafe-like, the evening meals are excellent, from dishes as simple as nachos to more exotic pastas/risottos. They do daily specials as well. For some reason it's a lovely place to go when the weather is bad - maybe because it's so warm and welcoming!!

Went here for breakfast this morning. It was so busy when we went in we were told we'd have a 10-15 minute wait. So, we went for a wander and came back 10 minutes later. We were seated fairly prompty in the window. Breakfast was served quickly and was delicious. This is obviously a very popular place. I'll definitely go back here for lunch.

I'd also highly recommend the fry up - slightly on the expensive side for the portions but well worth it! Good atmosphere, plenty of staff. You might have to wait a while for a table during peek times but there's enough there that one comes up soon enough. Didn't try the cakes but they looked good!

After living in Bruntsfield for a year, I've visited this place for breakfasts, lunches, snacks and dinners. Everytime it is a joy to behold, friendly staff and varied food to suit whatever time of day, a must for locals and visitors alike. And fantastic on Sunday evenings (live music).
