Not really worth the effort. It's okay for a lunchtime snack, but there is no reason to go out of your way to eat here.

I do not recommend this restaurant.
I went here one sunny night after work for a couple of drinks and some dinner. The tables outside are crammed far too close together and everyone kept on stumbling over people's bags, legs... eventually we opted to go inside.
Service was bad. We had one extremely rude waiter who, after I had complained my food was cold, very rudely snatched them back to take back to the kitchen. On the way he mumbled something about me to a waitress standing nearby who proceeded to look over to our table. Very amateur, I was only complaining that my food was cold! Food was overall OK but over-priced.
We were never checked up on and it took us ages to even get hold of someone to bring us our bill.
Overall: rubbish service and an extremely average meal. I would not go back.

Long time no review. But here I go again!
Note: Scroll down to last sentence if you want to skip my usual rambling guff. Go on.
After just hanging around in my usual haunts (see previous reviews) and being unadventourous with my food choices, I was invited to try out the Cafe Rouge chain. Dare I pry myself away from the Petit Paris?
My oh my.. if Petit Paris is a small chain playing up it's grassroots... roots, Cafe Rouge is its larger, brassier, ballsier big sister with full on Moulin Rouge cosmopolitan French city glamour, mirrored surfaces, large ceilings, big and open. I was impressed. This was Grande Paris, and I half expected Le Metro to rumble past my feet. I guess the new Edinburgh tram system will have to do.
On with the food. The menu is a bit confusing but they apparently do everything from lunches to sarnies, baguettes to beers. A small french cafe that can do posh dinners. And posh dinners they can do, for reasonable prices.
Had the duck confit with orange liqeuer and square potato and garlic hash. Magnifique.
Last sentence: I will be coming back here again.

I went to cafe rouge for Saturday lunch.
Staff were excellent, very friendly and attentative. The food was yummy and came quickly even though they were very busy!
The Merguez in my merguez salad was yummy and my friend had the goats salad which she assured me was delicious also.
It was a bit pricy for what it was - we shared a main as a starter, had 2 mains and 2 glasses of wine - it came to £34.
On the whole: good.

What can I say? It's a chain, playing at being French...
The one thing in its favour is an excellent rosé from Provence. Look out for the Chateau d'Aumerade!
