Although I've been here loads of times in the past, like vegasmonkey previously mentioned, I wasn't sure whether or not it served food until I was there tonight to meet up with a friend and we both decided we wanted some food.
It turns out that as well as having an extensive range of malts and ales, Cloisters also has an excellent pub food menu. We had a couple of pub food staples - sausage and mash and battered haddock and chips. Both hit the spot. And at less than £7 each, very well priced.
The barman made sure to point out that everything was cooked fresh on site - I wonder whether he noticed my EdinburghMenus.com umbrella when we walked in?!
Overall, I can't recommend this pub highly enough for a few good pints and a bit of top quality pub nosh. Good place to catch up with friends - excellent pub atmosphere - no background music to battle with when having a conversation!

This pub is brilliant. It is a break from the norm and just bring everything back the simple things of what you need from a bar - good service, good range of alcohol and you can actually have a chat and hear what you are talking about. It has a good mix of people that go there from the old to the students and all can drink in harmony and not feel out of place.
Would recommend this to anyone who is looking for something different and enjoys a quite drink. The building itself is worth a visit

Long time I have not had such a brilliant pug grub.
I usually go to this beautiful pub in an old church for its really good ales and friendly bar staff but never had food there before.
Food took longer to come than usual because it is freshly made on site and was well worth it.
I had Steak and Ribs for £8.50 with chips and a nice salad. She had venison and creamy mash and side vegetables for £9.50. Both portions were massive!
This is so cheap any other pud usually charges about £12 for the rib-eye steak with out the ribs and at least £14 for venison. We could not believe it!
I was also cooked to perfection and the sauce was delightful.
The pub is excellent atmosphere for a grub as there is no music and clean and clear atmosphere with nice and quite customers enjoying a large selection of ales and whisky.

Not sure if it serves food but it is one of my favourite watering holes in Edinburgh. Always an excellent selection of ales and a great, friendly atmosphere; although sometimes full of suits on a Friday after work. The pub is in an old church, hence the name. Really simply but delightful decor.
