We went there recently and the food was really dire - dishes were overcooked (in one case, burnt), and the salads were very poor quality. On the plus side, we did get a refund and the staff did try to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

I've had mixed experiences at this Leith Bistro. It's certainly not up to the extremely high standards Daniel set for himself in the much-missed Auberge in St Mary's Street. However, I'll loyally give it the benefit of the doubt and keep going back!

Had a great meal in here two nights ago. The food was very tasty and good portions for the larger eater. I agree about the Terrine of Chocolate which my partner had being brilliant. Good service also. We will definitely be going back, particularly as we are local to the area.

Great 2 or 3 course lunch menu with a very affordable price tag.
Service is efficient if not exactly personable.
Can be a bit of a squeeze sometimes if busy.

This was our second visit to Daniels our fist being on a very busy Saturday night and found the food & service great. This visit a quiet sunny evening in June was even better. We had a starter to share which was like a thin pizza with onion & cheese and was just right to get the taste buds going. For main courses, Barbary Duck in a wild berry sauce was delicious and perfectly cooked, Chicken in wild mushrooms was just scrummy, and beef in a blue cheese sauce had me drooling before I had taken a bite - the aroma was so good and so well cooked the steak knife was un-necessary. For sweets we had lemon cheese cake which was excellent, but the Terrine of Chocolate was to die for. 70% cocoa with an orange sauce, my fellow diners resorted to sticking the fingers in and licking them because I was keeping this caviar of sweets to myself. This along with 4 spitits & mixers, 6 beers of various nationalitys & a bottle of red wine £125 for 4. Great value, fantastic food (if we hadn't thought we might cause offence we would have all licked the plates) and wonderful service.
