We ate at Fishers last night.
We hadn’t booked in advance but they managed to sneak us in despite the restaurant being very VERY busy (on a Tuesday night as well?!).
I would thoroughly recommend this Fishers and if it's fish you want then it the place to visit in the city centre. The menu had so many things on there that we were both keen to try, after much deliberating, we decided to share 2 main courses – large mussels (£9.75 for an overflowing bowl of mussels!) and also the seafood platter (£18.50) – both were superb! The seafood platter consisted: prawns, mackerel, haddock, pickled herring (my new favourite), sardines, green lipped mussels and crowned with an oyster. To be honest there was far too much for the pair of us to get through but of course we left space for a dessert! It was a stunning raspberry cheesecake – very clearly homemade with a beautiful berry compote on top. We came close to licking the plate clean!
Not only was the food truly fantastic, the wine list was extensive and we chose a very tasty bottle of Sancerre. With dessert we opted for different glasses of wine; I had a glass of Rose which was the tastiest wine I have ever tried and went down a treat with the cheesecake.
Service was outstanding – very attentive without being overly so.
The bill wasn’t too painful either £66 for 2 mains, a dessert, bottle of wine and 2 glasses of wine.
Looking forward to my next visit.

CHARMINGLY OLD FASHIONED & REASSURINGLY EXPENSIVE
After hearing many good things about this restaurant my partner took me here earlier in the year for our anniversary - we were not disapointed.
The restaurant is hidden away on Thistle Street and is full of old fashioned charm. It is split on two levels which makes for a cosier and private atmosphere. Although full it did not seem over crowded. The cliental as far as I could tell were all quite well to do and we seemed to be some of the youngest diners there (we are in our late twenties). However, don't let this put you off the food was lovely and the service friendly and efficient.
The menu though not extensive was well thought out and obviously heavily based around seasonal fish. The food was fresh, of good quality and definitely all home made - even the dessert, which is sadly often a rarity these days.
Yes, it is expensive but I think certainly worth it for a treat or special occasion. It cost us just under £90 for two: one starter, two mains, two desserts, one lager, one bottle of wine (mid-price) and a bottle of water. While I wouldn't eat here regularly (our budget doesn't stretch that far!) I would certainly recommend it for a special occasion or meal out with older relatives - you know whatever you get is going to be good - and you know you aren't going to be bothered by noisy co-diners.
I would definitely recommend Fishers, although make sure you reserve in advance as it gets booked up early.

Have visited this restaurant twice - overall very good.
On my last visit there I noticed that there were no vegetarian main courses (not that it affected me) but as I have vegetarian friends I happened to notice this. Also, the menu seemed to change before we had ordered (many of the things on the menu were either out of stock or had been altered) - the waitress had to come back THREE times to notify us of changes - even after I had decided what to order. This was very annoying. However she was very polite and apologetic. The food which I did order was excellent. I probably would have eaten anything off the menu so the changes to the menu didn't really affect me that much! Wine was great too. I wasn't paying (phewf) - but it's definitely more of a restaurant to go to for a special occasion.

I love this restaurant - great atmosphere, wonderful service and the fish is amazing. What I love, too, is that you can have a glass of wine (their Muscadet is excellent) and eat at the bar as a 'drop-in'.

Could not fault this restaurant. Service is attentive but not overbearing reflecting the relaxed atmosphere. Food is excellent, fish soup was simply stunning, main courses - fish pie and Stonebass were again faultless. Pudding was a chocolate crepe filled with mascarpone and morello cherries, again perfect not oversweet and aided by some fresh tangy raspberries. Very good wine lst with house wines starting at £13.95. Bill came to £73, excellent value for money. Highly recommend.

The restaurant has two sides, the street facing side and the back side. The street facing side is great and full of buzz, the back side is as the name suggests and was a bit like being seated at the kids table. I had visited in person to book a table so was surprised to be shown through to a back room. Up there the views and atmosphere were absent and the service was poor to be frank, we had to grab someone to get drink while we viewed the Menu and later then also had to wave for attention to place our food order. Later we wanted more drinks but no one was “looking in on us”, so we did not order more drinks or coffee and sadly they lost revenue. Shame as the quality of the seafood and presentation was really very good and the wine list was also pretty good. But we felt that we had a watered down experience.
