On a rainy weekend me and a friend fancied a curry. Just round the corner, this place delivers. But when it comes to the food stakes, does it REALLY deliver?
Meh.
Here's what we had (prices as of time of writing). For starters, Gandhi’s assorted tandoori – 10.95 quid consisting of Tandoori chicken 2 pieces, lamb tikka 2 pieces, chicken tikka, 2 pieces, king prawns 2 pieces, sheek kebab 1 piece with 1 nan bread. These portions are presented to you in a rather impressive manner sitting in the table of the restaurant, but in a takeaway box for 11 quid, it's sweated out, dry, and ultimately unimpressive.
For mains we had the Lamb rogan josh – 5.50 – medium hot dish prepared with mixed peppers. Garlic, fresh coriander and spices garnished with spicy fried tomatoes. Any good? Surprisingly yes, which lifts the scorecount of this place a bit.
Boiled rice for starch, Peshwari naan (2.15 quid) which was poor. This came with poppadums and assorted chutneys - onion raita, mango chutney, onion salsa.
Grand Total - 18.6 quid (poppadums and chutneys free).
All in all restaurant presentation looks nice (though I have never sat in and eaten here, preferring to order and pick the food up myself). The curries are generally okay, but the starters weren't too great for that price.
Decidedly average though I'm not knocking the quality. They must be doing something right for me to keep calling them back for a curry!
Late and rainy night convenience curry comfort food that keeps one coming back to satisfy that crassy curry cravings. 2.5 out of 5.

I like this place.
First went here a few years ago and was blown away by the peshwari naan served with honey, when I went in a couple of weeks ago there seemed to be less honey than I remembered but I guess there is a bee decline going on out there. Naan was still top drawer though, it may have been my memory though, much in the same way as Creme Eggs, Mars bars, ice-cream cones etc. all used to be more generous, although I am assured little has changed but the price.
Where was I? Oh yes, the rest of the meal was also top notch, 4 of us ate and had and assortment of bhuna, massala, rogan josh and another which I forget the name of, 2 in chicken, 2 in lamb. Lamb ones were best, but I think this is to do with me always ordering chicken curries and only recently discovering that lamb seems to hold flavour better and has a superior texture when cooked in certain styles, especially in less creamy curries, getting hungry now.
We all shared our 4 dishes and rice and naan, and were all delighted and full as we left. Only real criticism is the actual dining space, which is unspectacular but obviously functional - narrow room, tables, chairs, window to street.
I will be back soon!

This is the best Indian restuarant in Edinburgh, I think. We travel over from the US and whenever we are in Edinburgh we make a point of eating there... ask staff for recommendations and they will suggest some great dishes... we have tried things we haven't eaten anywhere else!

Yes the food is of good quality but at times i had to wait an considerably amount of time till I got my meal. The price is just about right. Worth going however you should keep your options open for other restaurants and compare them.
