My favourite local pub and restaurant!

I haven't been back for a while now but my impression from the beginning of this pub (2008?) has been really really good.

The staffs are so friendly and laid-back. The food and drink are beyond expectation. There are always a surprise, like, a bill coming in a nicely decorated CD case, sometimes in a cute handbag etc etc. Their backroom is really cozy and their front room is also nice. Very child-friendly in daytime as well. I used to have a cup of tea with a baby in a buggy etc. When my kid (3-year-old at that time) wanted a juice, they cut a straw to a right size for her etc. It's just always so pleasant. Their wi-fi has always a good reception. Well, nothing to complain about, really... well last year, they decided to put a TV in the front room... but it doesn't annoy us. Oh and their burlesque night is fantastic. The dancers for Guilty Lily are amazing.

Oh, and when we arranged a party, they were really attentive and gave us lots of suggestions (but not pushy) and helpful.

I hope they will survive despite of this long recession!

Long Live Guilty Lily!!!!

Tastebuds go ting-ga-ling in a Jewel of a place!!!!!!

Yesterday I went to Guilty Lily's as I had read that the food was good and home-made. So, to test it out on my trained palate, I ordered 2 starters instead of a main.

Goat's cheese tart with HOMEMADE onion jam AND a starter of Fish Pie.

These dishes can also be served as a main course. Portions are quite large. I WANTED to order waffles for a desert but was too full.

I used to be a chef/cook in a former life and it takes a lot to get my tastebuds going. I'm more often than not disappointed when an establishment promises home-made food when it's clear that some of it is not.

Perhaps I'm just fussy!

The massive fish-cake was presented well with an accompaniment of sweet chile HOME MADE mayo and a tasty side salad. The fishcake had some delicious smoked haddock in it as well as other fish - and plenty of it. This dish in itself would have been enough for me as a main course.

Cost: 4.50

The goat's cheese tart was served on it's own on a rectangular white plate which looked pretty. The pastry was rough puff with grilled slices of a good quality goat's cheese with a delicious topping of red onion Jam.

Cost: 3.95

The tart was equally as delicious as the fish cake, which gave me great difficulty deciding which one to finish last. :-)

Which one did I want to stay a-tingeling in my mouth longer?

HARD CHOICE: fishcake :-)

I found the service really good and the staff were very attentive. I overheard the barman asking each customer what their meal had been like. Also spoke to two locals who were eating there and they said that the food was brilliant.

Lily's also has just had a very favourable review in the "Monthly mini guide to eating and drinking in Edinburgh" magazine Bite.

VERDICT: Two empty plates - Absolutely Delicious - I'll go back for more and try the breakfast menu.
