Happiness has opened up where the wonderful Noodle House used to be. I was extremely disheartened when the Noodle House closed its doors, so I was pleased to see Happiness open up, but also had reservations that if Noodle House couldn't make ends meet there, how would another Chinese restaurant?
However, it seems that Happiness might actually be owned by the same people as Noodle House, as it has retained some of the features of the old place (such as specific dishes on the menu, special offers, etc.) but has also had a makeover and revamp. Gone are the plastc tablecloths to be replaced with nice red cloths and matching candle holders. This makes for a more subtle and romantic atmosphere, the one thing missing from the old Noodle House. The menus have many of the same dishes as Noodle House, but are now properly presented, replacing the old A4 binder and plastic wallets with hardback books, which reminded me somewhat of the childrens picture books I had as a small child.
Front of house staff have also changed. The lovely watiresses from the previous incarnation seem to have gone, replaced by a group of equally friendly female staff, who at times were quite excitable. I think we may have been one of their first clients, as they seemed somewhat overjoyed when we entered.
For the whole of our stay we were the only people dining in the restaurant, but they did seem to do a good trade in take-aways, with several being collected in the hour we were there.
I think the old Noodle House chef has been retained, as the food was immaculate. Having recently dined at Dragon Way and left s rather unfavourable review to reflect the experience, it was such a relief to be served such outstanding quality, fresh food.
To begin, we chose the platter of mixed starters, which arrived in good time, and was just enough for the two of us (including the complimentary prawn crackers brought to our table as we were seated). Spare ribs, won-tons, prawn toast, seaweed, and spring rolls with dipping sauce. Each cooked to perfection.
For main course, I chose honey Char Sui, which was delicate, beautifully prepared and presented, and made with good, fresh ingredients. Over the table, the shredded chilli beef was also being appreciated.
We skipped desserts, and with a couple of glasses of wine added on top, the bill was extremely reasonable.
Thankfully, Noodle House's replacement is a joyous experience, and a first-rate neighbourhood restaurant, perfect for a casual but intimate midweek dining experience. Noodle House rebooted and upgraded, in fact.
Happiness, Happiness, the greatest gift that Newington may possess...

I had a take away from here last night and have to say it was delicious. It took about 25 minutes but we only live round the corner so picked it up. As is often the case with Chinese take aways, there is a vast amount to choose from on the menu. I opted a mixed starter which wasn't billed for two people but could easily have sufficed. Nothing was greasy and the flavours were just right.
I had the prawn dumpling noodle dish from the specials section for my main. They did not scrimp on the dumplings and the noodles were cooked just how I liked them.
We spent over £20 so got free prawn crackers and a share size bottle of coke. Not as much of a freebie as Happiness's predecessor Noodle House but welcomed nevertheless.
The best chinese meal I have had for a while. I'd definitely recommend this place.

Definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants in town. We got take out, a selection of sweet and sour, duck noodles, szechuan chicken and chilli shredded beef. The menu was huge, but we will certainly be back to try out more of it!
While the dishes were being prepared, we were invited to take a seat and were brought complimentary prawn crackers - not bad at all. The order was made up promptly and we were home with hot, beautiful smelling food before long. All the dishes had an ample selection of colourful vegetables included, which varied in each tray. And as we spent over £20 we got a bottle of coke and a bag of prawn crackers big enough for the four of us.
Particular highlight was the Vermicelli duck noodles, they will be on our next order for sure. Low light, that there wasn't more left overs for breakfast the next morning! I am glad we have now found our local take away and am looking forward to many more orders to come - I really want to try the dumplings.

I simply can not recommend Happiness highly enough.
I really rate MartinR's reviews as I tend to agree with his opinions. As he raved so much about Happiness I was determined to try it.
I've used the place 5 times in the last three weeks alone! The salt and pepper squid is just divine, as are the barbecued spare ribs.
I love roast duck with just soy as the sauce. They didn't have this on the menu and although it took me a while to convince the lady on the phone (who is lovely incidentally) that yes I wanted duck without any of their cited sauces, she was very obliging once she understood.
The chap who delivers is so pleasant and charmingly grateful when you tip him.
Honestly, Happiness is just lovely. Chinese take away can be so hit and miss but I can't fault this place.
