Recently had a meal at Howies, with a seven-year-old; we booked because they make a big show of being child friendly. Nothing could be further from the truth. A horrible experience. I did complain the next day and got the 'standard' Howies brush-off via email i.e. we were at fault and not them.
The food is okay, but they don't actually know what the word 'service' means. If you're a hen party looking for a quick meal it's clearly fine, but for the rest of the population it's best missed.

I've eaten here quite a few times and think it's a a great choice for dinner (or lunch) in Bruntsfield - friendly staff, constantly changing menu and well prepared food in pleasant surroundings. Very reasonably priced too. The wine list is quite good but you can also BYOB if that's your preference.

Food was incredibly average, service was incredibly below average, and they informed us very loudly that we had to leave about 2 minutes after we had paid as the table was needed for the next people.All in all a poor night out, with fairly rude staff. If you want rude staff, there are restaurants specifically for this, my advice - DO NOT EAT HERE.

I had a lovely meal at the Bruntsfield branch of Howies. The staff were friendly and I enjoyed my meal. It was quite busy so I take that as a good sign. Great ambience, I like the church candles everywhere, really cosy! Give it a shot for value for money.
