Katie's Diner, 12 Barclay Terrace, EH10 4HP, Edinburgh

I went here recently with friends, having tried most of the burger places in town we felt we had to give this one a try as well. It is in a perfect location with views over Bruntsfield Links so on a nice night it is great. As you walk in you are greeted by Geoff the owner who welcomed us by name (the table was booked under) - even thought we had never been before and we coudl choose which table we would prefer. There were only 2 other tables in.

Starters are mainstream with Garlic Mushrooms, Prawns and a few others. We had one starter to share between us. The menu specialises in steaks and burgers - we all went for burgers but the table beside us all had steaks which looked really good as well.

Range of burgers with various different toppings - not as many options as the likes of The Camberidge Bar but still at least 7-8 options for you to choose from. I went for the bacon cheeseburger which was very good - the burgers are clearly homemade and you get a good portion of chips and homemade coleslaw as well. Prices range from £8.50-£9.95 for burgers depending on what you have on it.

We didnt end up having puddings but they did look good. As we entered we saw 2 portins of sticky toffee pudding going out and it smelt and looked very good - we didnt have much space left for pudding though.

The service in here makes the place - it is very personal and you really do feel like you have been invited into someones home to have dinner with them. Our bill came to £42 - for 2 beers, a glass of wine, one starter and 3 burgers. Not too bad for price. We didnt take advantage of the BYO offer which we will do next time to save on costs.

Katie's is a tiny wee restaurant located at the corner of the Bruntsfield Links. The menu focuses on steak (4 cuts x 5 different sauces) and burgers.

I dined there on a Friday night. For starter I had prawns and my companion had mushrooms - both were very simple dishes but very tasty. We both had sirloin steaks for main course. The steaks were generously portioned and cooked well to our preferences.

We took advantage of the cheap corkage and brought our own wine. The bill for 2 courses for 2 of us came to £40. Absolutely execellent value considering we both had steaks.

Given the great value and friendly feel of the place I imagine I will be returning in the future.

I have used Katy's Diner on numerous occasions and have always been greeted warmly by Geoff, as the host, and enjoyed the wholesome quality fare put before us by Katy. Whilst it may be a no frills place that is not to say it lacks charm and ambiance.

I would highly recommend it for an easy, comfortable place to relax and enjoy your food.
