The food in this place is superb, you must go and try the stews. Also some of the deserts are to die for...

This is truly one of my favourite restaurants at the moment, the food and service is really nice.

Went on Sunday night. Very poor service - had to complain about the wrong drinks, wrong food and the bill was wrong. Staff's English was very poor. Service took ages. Had the nachos - as others have said, they were very plain. £45 for a meal for 2. Would not go again and would not recommend.

Have just been for a Sunday afternoon meal with family (five adults and one child). The Mexican staff are a delight (I'd like to hear Andrew's Spanish! - See review from 01/07/09). Starters, Mains and Drinks (including a bottle of Wine, 2 Coronas, 3 Vodka and Cokes and 3 cocktails and coffee) came to £125 which about £20 cheaper than going to a chain like Chiquitos for food which is of a much better quality. We have been to La Cantina a few times (both when it was El Mariachi and since its change of management) and have never been disappointed.

I had been here before and had loved it so suggested going there when meeting up with a friend.
The starter was nachos, which was a very small portion but nice all the same. For the main course I ordered Vegetarian Chimichanga but received what looked like a burrito. As it looked okay dedided not to make a fuss. However when I cut in to it I found that it had chicken in it. I raised this with a waiter who noted that there was vegetables in it too!!! As a strict vegetarian this is not what I wanted to here, He reluctantly took it away and replaced it with a veggie alternative 15 minutes later when my friend had finished her meal. Night ruined would be reluctant to visit again.

I had a bad experience at this restaurant. My wife and I went there for a Saturday night meal. It didn’t bode well to start with as it was practically empty, which isn't a good sign for a restaurant as it means customers are not going there. I now know why this is. We ordered drinks to start which arrived late and my beer was given to me in chipped glass.
We both started with Calamari and of course you need to get this cooked just right, they didn’t. They could not cook it properly and it was overdone. Both of us did not finish it. Our tortilla chips I think were Sainsbury’s basic range at 7p a bag and boy did they taste like it - totally flavourless.
Clearly struggling and cutting their costs and buying in cheap supplies. The main courses arrived; I ordered a simple chicken fillet, in a Cancum sauce. The chicken was overcooked and totally rubbery and the sauce had separated and was bland. My wife ordered the Aubergine Bake, the aubergine should have a little bite to it however like the chicken it was overcooked. We also wondered if they had bothered to add any basil to the tomato and basil sauce, because we couldn’t taste any. To top it all, when I visited the toilet, the issue of keeping the toilets clean were being ignored - they were beyond filthy.
We can’t tell you what the deserts were like as we paid the bill and left. A good night spoilt in our opinion. The service and the food were both bad. It's a poor quality imitation of a Mexican restaurant. Not recommended.
