Going there on a family outing with three generations may not have been the best choice with the grandparents being hard of hearing and the need for a large table both making it difficult to communicate in such a lively setting! Would definitely reccomend for a girls night out or dinner with friends but a table for four at the most to avoid any shouting! It is loud and bositerous with a young feel and waiters seemingly imported from Italy (another good reason to make this a girls night out!)
I shared the seafood soup which was tomato based and flavourful but the good amount of seafood in the soup was slightly overcooked and a bit dissapointing. For my entree I chose an egg pasta, I forget the name of the shape, but it was like penne but hand rolled resulting in a delicate mouth feel. The sauce was a cream and italian bacon sauce with fresh veggies. It was nicely done and satisfying. My husband had one of the pizzas with fresh rocket and procuitto (laid on after the pizza came out of the oven which is the way to do it). It was a good choice. The just warm salty meat was a perfect match for the peppery rocket. Other choices around the table was a riccotta and eggplant pasta, very nice, a pizza topped with smoked salmon, I didn't understand that match, and a veggie pizza, among others. There were no complaints around the table and we managed to get through the meal without any hitches and that is saying much when you have so much family around.
Recommended highly and next time I will have a dessert!

Originating in the slums of 18th century Napoli, Pizza has humble origins, but has gone on to become a major type of cuisine across the globe. Unfortunately much of this drive has been perpetuated by abominable aberrations; Pizza Hut; supermarket pizza; and perhaps most recently, Pizza Express.
The philosophy of good Pizza is fresh quality ingredients, simply prepared. A good Pizza sits on a freshly made base, with mozzarella, basil and lightly seasoned tomato. Anything that comes from a frozen base, and is ‘prepared’ by a monosyllabic student/teenager who simply covers the article in mechanical cheese/assorted-dried-out-processed toppings, then places on an industrial rolling heater, is not good Pizza. It is an aberration. It should not even carry the title. The food you get in a place like Pizza Hut or Papa John’s should be termed intensively-farmed-post-frozen-basic-sustenance.
It is ironic that I am an elitist when it comes to a food of the peasant. Indeed, in Italy, there is a clearer distinction between Pizzeria and Ristorante. An establishment is more likely to specialise in one or the other. The best examples of the classic fine dining Ristorante, in Edinburgh, are La Partenope, in Dalry, and D’Antonios, in Leith.
The title of best Pizzeria in Edinburgh certainly goes to La Favorita. The adherence to the key principles of freshness are all there, together with a wood fired oven, which is truly the envy of most of Edinburgh’s Italian restaurants. Such an oven can attain a far higher temperature, ideal for perfect Pizza.
I have eaten in La Favorita several times, and my experience has ranged from good to excellent. The staff are attentive, knowlegable about the menu, and generally delightful. The Pizza is always excellent as is the antipasti selection.
It is a shame that many reviewers on the quite wonderful website, Edinburghmenus, seem to be devoid of critical faculty. Glancing across the history of many reviewers reveals, in many cases, a glut of reviews between four and five out of five. I noticed another lady reviewer, with at least 20 reviews, who has given every one either 3, 3.5, 4 or 4.5. One is justified in asking the point of submitting a review, when no matter the standard of restaurant, it receives a trite good or very good review.
The pertinence of the point is in my score of La Favorita. I deem four stars to be a very good restaurant, certainly one of the best in its category, in which you are assured to have an excellent meal. La Favorita is just such a restaurant, but it is not in the elite handful of five star establishments in the city, where attention to detail is exceptional. Exceptional, by its very nature, prohibits a plethora of such restaurants, or they would cease to be the exception from the normal.
Ciao

I booked a table at La Favorita for myself and four friends using the EdinburghMenus online booking service – this allows you to book directly into the restaurants system and as such is a quick, easy and reliable way of booking a table. I have eaten at La Favorita on several prior occasions and have always been impressed with the food and service. My visit last week however, was a bit of a disappointment. There was nothing wrong with the service – in fact on finding a potato peeling at the bottom of a side salad (!) the waiter was very apologetic and quick to return from the kitchen with a new salad. The problem lay, I believe, in my poor choice of main course. Both a friend and myself ordered the sliced steak with spaghetti. Having requested our steak rare, we received a measly four medium/well done slithers of meat on the side of a handful of spaghetti. It was tasty enough, but I left the restaurant hungry! Another friend ordered Calzone – which looked filling and delicious. I will most likely go back to La Favorita, but I’ll definitely stick to the pizza from now on.

Fun, friendly atmosphere (watch out for birthday parties!). Service excellent and of course the food - this is also very good - especially some of the more exotic pasta dishes. Highly recommended.

I can be really short about this amazing restaurant. Simply the best pizzas in town, very friendly staff and extremely fast even when they're really busy! I always get my pizzas for take-away and I never have to wait long. Get a tub of mixed icecream as well, they can be quite generous in the serving for a few quid!
