I previously reviewed this fairly new bar on George Street giving it 3.5 stars as I was really impressed the first time I went with the prices, quality of food and ambiance of the place. But having been back a couple of times, I have to knock it down at least half a star. The last time I was there the service was really slow and the food was only average.

They seem to be getting a bit lazy with the overall appearance of the place as well. We were sitting at the back of the bar and there was a cheap and nasty baby's high chair at the bar alongside the other bar stools. Things like that say bad management to me.

I'd still recommend that you try this place, but don't be surprised if it's not as good as you thought it was going to be when you first step in the door.

James's review is slightly harsh! I think Andy's review is more accurate. I don't particularly like Le Monde as a drinking establishment but in terms of food I think it is worth a visit.

I have been to Le Monde twice for lunch and once for dinner and was impressed each time I went.

The last time I went I had spagettic carbonara and a delicious chocolate fondue (Mmmm...)

The waiter that served us was a little eccentric and hard to understand but he very kindly reminded us that they did a student deal which got us a 25% discount of our bill which made us very happy.

The food is reasonably priced (especially considering it is based on George Street)

I love the bright and modern decor!

Verdict? Definitely worth a visit.

I've had lunch here a couple of times and it's never as busy as the Living Room or Tiger Lily. There's a reason. It's just not as good.

The atmosphere is a bit 'empty barn'. the service is slow and when I asked the waitress for another menu for someone who would be joining us any minute (politely) she loudly harumphed and to the amusement of my pal was giving me dirty looks the entire meal. Odd.

Anyway the food was pretty good and I have no objection there. Price wasn't bad and all in all it wasn't a bad lunch. I'd still pay the money for Tiger Lily though given the choice.

Not bad but no more than 3 stars.

What's wrong with this place? The clientèle. When I went, I walked in and immediately came across a guy doing an "all striker" - the guy from American Pie - one hand out in front, the other pretending to slap a girl's bum. If you are like that, then you'll like this pretentious place, if not, then if you find yourself going near, shoot yourself.

A group of friends and I went to le Monde on Saturday lunch time - we were at that end of town and one of my friends had just got engaged so we decided to go for lunch and some champagne cocktails.

We hadn't booked and were shown to a booth upstairs. We had a very attentive waited to recommended a delicious champagne cocktail (I think it was called le Cruyff - might be wrong!) which was delicious - one of my friends was on antibiotics though and so was off booze - no problem - they mixed her an alcohol free version which was very good as well!

For lunch I opted for scallops which I was warned were a small portion - it was! Good job I got the side salad otherwise I would have been stealing food off my friends! Two of them opted for macaroni cheese that looked and smelt fabulous, whilst my third friend had a humous sandwich.

Service was very good though out - judging from the other reviews, we were lucky! It was very busy but we didn't have to wait overly long for food or drinks!

For 4 meals and two rounds of cocktails it came to about £65 which I think was reasonable. I wouldn't rush back as I'm sure you could get better for the same price. If you are keen to try similar sort of food in this area of town - try Amicus Apple or Ricks. Amicus do great cocktails and it'll cost a similar price.

A lot of hot students working here. Makes it the friendliest place on George St. The food is nothing out of the ordinary but it's good value. Didn't know until recently about the fab bar upstairs which has a nice Friday after work drinks offer. Don't go on a Saturday unless you like crowds.
