Love You Long Thai, 20a Leopold Place, EH75LB, Edinburgh
As a regular customer of Spicebox, I was delighted to hear that they were finally opening a restaurant - even more so that it's so close to wher I live! They used to run the much missed Thai Me Up (York Place) so although it was great when they started up Spicebox & the delivery, it was even better when they announced they had found new premises for a restaurant and finally opened a couple of months ago. I was there this weekend for the first time and arrived with high expectations. The restaurant occupies a cosy space below the Richmond Hotel on Leopold Place with traditional style dark wooden furniture & subtle lighting. Food and service did not disappoint, at all. Pretty much it was faultless. Staff are friendly, polite, helpful & unintrusive. The food is quite simply outstanding. We went for the fish cakes and chicken in pandanus leaves to start with and then chicken green curry and a delightful curry (no 22 on the menu - sorry, can't remember the name!!) made with a red curry paste & spinach which we had with king prawns. Both presentation and flavours of the dishes are astonishing. For those of you familiar with the Spicebox menu, this menu is more limited in its choices but there's still plenty to choose from and there are also things that you won't find on the takeout menu - such as a few "Chargrilled Specialities & the number 22 that we had! All in all it was a fantastic evening and I can't recommend this place enough. It's probably best to book as there's only space for 30 covers or so. The only downside to the evening was that the credit card machine wasn't working - although to be fair they alerted you to this as well as letting you know where the nearest cash machine (only 1 minute walk away) was and I guess these things happen on occasion. To sum it up - best Thai in Edinburgh.
