Beautiful building, excellent location, tasteful decor. Unfortunately our burgers were delivered almost an hour late, and one was cold. Other guests reported a 45min delay on a soup order which was also delivered cold. Dreadful. We didn't complain, mainly because we were too weak with the hunger by that point, and the staff had that slow walking slow talking look of not giving a damn anyway. We dropped in on a lunch meet-up, so returned late to work, unsatisfied and and considerably less well off as the burgers were over £11 each, which might have been acceptable had they been delicious, hot and on time. Not a lot to ask for really.

Prix fixe lunchtime menu is a delight and the price is great too. Beautiful reastaurant in a great little corner of Leith.
Hotel is fab for a high-end city break.

Service was shambolic. With a practically empty restaurant we were given the table by the doorway with people continually walking pass and an uncomfortable breeze. We did move with no problem but a good manager would never have positioned us there in the first place. Both the drinks and food order were messed up but eventually after several conversations with three different members of staff it was sorted out. However the food is very good. It’s locally sourced and well presented. Do not however have the house salad (Main £12). This was delivered in a glass bowl just like the ones you used to get free with soap powder back in the seventies and comprised of various types of lettuce including rocket, cherry tomatoes, croutons and four “squiggles” of soft cheese. This was nothing more that a side salad supersized. Malmaison place needs a manager that is capable of directing his staff and giving them specific roles rather than letting them all run around encroaching on each others territory. There are far better dining experiences to be had in Edinburgh.
