Maxi's Delicatessen and Cafe, 33 Raeburn Place, EH4 1HX, Edinburgh
I go here for lunch quite often, at this Stockbridge Delicatessen.
Is it any good? Check out what I've had so far over the months:
- Paninis (heated and unheated): Salmon & cream cheese, bacon & chunky chicken mayo, ham & emmental, chicken & sweet tomato salsa.
- Soups: Sweet potato & coconut soup (with hints of coriander)
- Mixed salad boxes: Green leaves with balsamic and olive oil, carrot/orange combos, celery/mustard, potato/mayo, couscous/courgette and even pasta salads. Tortillas optional.
Food is above average, and infinitely edible. Your orders may take a while, as this place is always busy (with locals, mums, friends dropping in for a coffee and chit chat).
Love thise 500 calories Dormen (tm) white chocolate-covered jumbo peanuts. So unforgiving on the waistline.
So, in spite of a lack of decent places for lunchtime eats in Stockbridge, the occassional long wait and crowded seats, Maxi's is maximally delicate. Drop by in Stockbridge, and I'll wave 'hi' to you.
3 out of 5.
