McKirdy's the Steakhouse, 151 Morrison Street, EH3 8AG, Edinburgh
My family and I went to McKirdy’s after the rugby on Saturday. It was a busy night and we had booked a table for 6, beforehand being told that they needed it back for 8... The weather was horrendous so we decided to go straight to McKirdy’s from the rugby. We arrived at 5 and the place was deserted, it was our intention to have a drink first before ordering our dinner. We were asked if we wanted to order about 5 times in the space of 15 minutes, when we explained to a waitress that we wanted to have our drink before eating, she rather unpleasantly told us that we could not sit at the table indefinitely and that she needed the table back. I explained that we had booked the table for 6 and I had been told the table wasn’t needed again until 8. My mum also pointed out that the restaurant was empty (we weren’t just sitting there taking up space, the 7 of us were all drinking!!).
This aggressive service really tarnished what was actually quite a pleasant meal and thankfully the waitress did not return to our table and we were instead served by a really good waiter.
The food was decent and we all had really good steaks, all perfectly cooked (what you want from a steak house!) But I wouldn’t go back – our bill was sizeable and when we left no-one even said ‘thanks for coming’ or ‘bye’ - a perfect example of how bad service can ruin a meal out.
