Monster Mash, 4a Forrest Road, EH1 2QN, Edinburgh
This place could be superb since the food is great and the staff are fine. But the service is sooo slow! If you are not too hungry and don't mind a wait, then go here as it has really good food, but take a book - War and Peace maybe?

Cheap and cheerful! Monster mash is great from its retro school dinner plates and tomato ketchup bottles to its menu consisting of you guessed it.... Mash! Proper, quality, comfort food.
Everytime I have been the atmosphere has been great with most tables full.
Although the menu offers vegtarian options if you are lactose intolerant you are a bit stuffed! - all the mash is pre-prepared with butter and milk...
The food comes quickly and is truly scrummy. Staff are generally great, I've been served by some excellent waitresses there but also had a bad experience once as well with a 'not so friendly' member of staff (think it probably had to do with being so busy).
On the whole though a great place to go for some quality, no frills grub. Excellent value for money!

This place offers wholesome food at an affordable price, and congratulations are due as that is exactly what it does. The decor is basic and the food is served on an array of different plates - which is exactly how this type of place should be. The service is very good and the price more than reasonable.
The food is as comforting, tasty and as abundant as you could wish for. I foolishly ordered the fish and chips as I am dubious about buying bangers and mash as I consider myself an adequate enough chef to prepare this gastronamic treat for myself at home. My meal was excellent, but from all the reports I have heard you havent tasted bangers and mash until you have tried it here! Next time I wont be so naive!
