I agree with Nick's review - the Mosque Kitchen has been getting more expensive recently. And when I went during the festival, not only was it more expensive than I remembered, but the portions were also a lot smaller! When I first went to the Mosque Kitchen years ago it was one of those increasingly rare hidden gems that not that many people knew about. Those who did were treated to huge portions of excellent curries for a couple of quid. Those good days were never going to last forever!

But the food is still great and good value and I'd recommend it for a quick meal during the day or early evening.

For what it is this place is top notch. You will find an eclectic mix of people and the food is fab. Check it out once and you will return time and time again.

I understand that Nick and Andy are upset because prices increase but it is just the same everywhere. A Pint of lager was £2.20 5 years ago when I arrived in UK and now it is average of £3. What can you do?

So I think that this is still a little gem. The portion are still huge as we, my g-f and I, usually order one curry with rice and veg and a naan with meat and that more than enough for both of us. Costs £6.50 for 2.

The place is not a restaurant of course and I recommend to take away in the winter but to eat outside in summer. You can meet really interesting people as everybody sits together on long tables.

The food is homemade simple, filling and really tasty, shame that they rarely change the menus. Fruits juices are delicious too.

At last may be they charge 50p for a salad, but I've tried to cook a curry for 2 at home once and it cost just above £10 so more that what you can get at the mosque kitchen.

Check it out!

Edinburgh's best kept curry secret. I agree its popularity is increasing along with prices. Because it's self service, it's the ideal place for a quick meal that will keep you going for the rest of the day - all for £5. Tasty, honest and authentic - makes it a great PR venture for the mosque. For the novelty value alone, it's the ideal venue to try your first curry!

Mosque kitchen is a good place to go for curry lovers. It's not a proper restaurant, but it does have outdoor sitting place for customers. As the sitting place is outdoor, takeaway is a better idea than having your food there in the blistering cold, especially during winter as you wouldn't enjoy your food no matter how amazing the food is. The food is cheap and good for the price you pay. I always go for a plate of rice with curry chicken and spinach which costs me 3.50. The reason I rate it mediocre is the price has been increasing with growing customers. THE RIDICULOUS THING IS THEY CHARGE 50P FOR A TINY BIT OF SALAD (USED TO BE FREE)!
