I agree with Nick's review - the Mosque Kitchen has been getting more expensive recently. And when I went during the festival, not only was it more expensive than I remembered, but the portions were also a lot smaller! When I first went to the Mosque Kitchen years ago it was one of those increasingly rare hidden gems that not that many people knew about. Those who did were treated to huge portions of excellent curries for a couple of quid. Those good days were never going to last forever!

But the food is still great and good value and I'd recommend it for a quick meal during the day or early evening.

For what it is this place is top notch. You will find an eclectic mix of people and the food is fab. Check it out once and you will return time and time again.

I understand that Nick and Andy are upset because prices increase but it is just the same everywhere. A Pint of lager was £2.20 5 years ago when I arrived in UK and now it is average of £3. What can you do?

So I think that this is still a little gem. The portion are still huge as we, my g-f and I, usually order one curry with rice and veg and a naan with meat and that more than enough for both of us. Costs £6.50 for 2.

The place is not a restaurant of course and I recommend to take away in the winter but to eat outside in summer. You can meet really interesting people as everybody sits together on long tables.

The food is homemade simple, filling and really tasty, shame that they rarely change the menus. Fruits juices are delicious too.

At last may be they charge 50p for a salad, but I've tried to cook a curry for 2 at home once and it cost just above £10 so more that what you can get at the mosque kitchen.

Check it out!

The best thing is the great price for what can be tasty food. This place is real cheap so you cannot complain at all about the humble surroundings which in Winter is quite bleak with the plastic chairs and tables.

The only real complaint I do have is that on occassion I have found the food served to be lukewarm. This is a bit of a disappointment. Also should you order any of the meat dishes and you do not like fat then you might want to take your own knife to cut it away.

I tend to stick to the chicken and the veg curries. I still go back every week as I am guaranteed decent food quickly for a good price.

If you are after a decent curry in a hurry this is a good option. They have a selection of about 5-6 curries our and to have one on rice it's about £3-£4.50 with nan/samosa extra.

The food was OK for the price, I had a tasty chicken curry, my wife a somewhat bland veg curry, but for the price and the portion size I think it was OK.

One of my favourite places to go when I'm strapped for cash but fancy an excellent curry. Their daal is amazing, and the veg curry always delicious and in big portions. Haven't noticed an increase in price myself, but I'm sure it's nothing most people who go there can't afford.

Mosque kitchen is a good place to go for curry lovers. It's not a proper restaurant, but it does have outdoor sitting place for customers. As the sitting place is outdoor, takeaway is a better idea than having your food there in the blistering cold, especially during winter as you wouldn't enjoy your food no matter how amazing the food is. The food is cheap and good for the price you pay. I always go for a plate of rice with curry chicken and spinach which costs me 3.50. The reason I rate it mediocre is the price has been increasing with growing customers. THE RIDICULOUS THING IS THEY CHARGE 50P FOR A TINY BIT OF SALAD (USED TO BE FREE)!

Edinburgh's best kept curry secret. I agree its popularity is increasing along with prices. Because it's self service, it's the ideal place for a quick meal that will keep you going for the rest of the day - all for £5. Tasty, honest and authentic - makes it a great PR venture for the mosque. For the novelty value alone, it's the ideal venue to try your first curry!

I love Mosque Kitchen and go there most times I'm in the Southside part of Edinburgh. The food is cheap, hot, very tasty and as a bonus very cheap. For £10 we can have two large curries, kebabs and drinks, superb!

If you can look past the very basic seating this is one of the best culinary finds in Edinburgh.
