How can there not be a review for the one-and-only Mussel Inn on Rose Street? Ha-ha! First post here!
For a chain (there's another in Glasgow) this is pretty good stuff. The fish is pretty okay, but the strength is in the mussels. Kilo pot of mussels with creme, garlic, morrocan, thai, you name it. Gorge it down and swipe with garlic bread. Shell-fish heaven.
So good I have this on my speed-dial (Remember kids, if you want to eat here you have to book in advance. I've once tried to get a table for two in the @rse end of a Monday in winter, and it's still full! obviously very popular, and there's a reason why. A lot of trade tends to be repeat customers hooked on that fresh Scottish seafood catch...)

I've been here a few times as I used to work right around the corner. Lunchtime is top with as the other person said- excellent mussels, very tasty. They were doing a good 6.99 for a half kilo, chips and a glass of wine but that may be finished now. Good value all the same. I wouldn't eat here on a special occaision as it won't be that fab, the mains (other than mussels ) were ok. I had scallops which were well overpriced and herself didn't finish the surf n turf.
It was good but apart from a cheeky lunch, I wouldn't rush back for dinner.

This is undoubtedly one of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh. The big pots of mussels are very reasonably priced and extremely tasty. Have only ever been for dinner, but it's a very relaxed environment. They serve big seafood platters for sharing (a favourite with me and my friends) with a variety of fish and seafood.
All in all a great wee cosy restaurant - I'm already planning my next visit!

Good quality mussels. I've never tried anything else, as it seemed to miss the point of the place a little - though I have had starters and they were good. Staff seems to understand the need for a steady stream of bread (to soak up all those juices in the pots of mussels) which is always nice.
