Charming little restaurant above a good pub. Straight forward unpretentious food, friendly service and fantastic value if you go early and take advantage of their pre-theatre menu.

I was here last weekend for dinner. Booked that day and got a nice corner table. There were one or two other empty tables but the chap said Saturdays you wouldn't normally get in if you drop in on spec. Worth a go mind you.
Had a haggis pancake thing to start while herself had something else which I honestly forget now but she was pleased with it. Then I had venison and she had duck. My venison was very tasty. the duck was ok but not sensational. They were presented very well and the rest of the meal was very good indeed. although we forgot to order steam veg and then I felt a bit annoyed they didn't suggest any but not a biggie. We were pretty full anyway.
Dessert was a passion fruit panacotta that was a little odd but tasty while the other half had a pear tart with rosemary ice-cream (odd) they weren't bad desserts but I'm sorry I didn't have something a bit simpler or more conventional.
Best bit of the meals were the starters which makes my forgetting hers a crime of some magnitude. The mains were second with the desserts a distant third.
Despite that it was nice overall, the setting was pleasant (lots of pictures - every table here is different) and the staff were very good. We had a nice australian shiraz (£18), coffees after, I had a coke as well and the whole thing came in at £83 + tip.
Would go again but would and go for simpler desserts.
PS - she had a some sort of pheasant wrapped in bacon with parsnips. It was very nice. I knew I'd remember.

A nice traditional Scottish restaurant with quaint surroundings but modern and friendly team of staff. The prices justify the high standards and quality. They will warn you that the Aberdeen Angus steak and apple crumble may take more than 5 minutes to cook but at least you know then it's been prepared and cooked freshly and they're definitely worth the wait. The cranachan is to die for. I've been back several times now with friends and family and they've all enjoyed.

This is a fab restaurant owned by husband / wife team. I have been going there for around 6 years (I think!) and they have never failed to impress. The decor is intimate with lots of cluttered old photos covering the walls, beams running across the roof and old golf clubs. The staff are friendly and helpful but not obtrusive and the food wonderful. It's more expensive than your local eaterie but almost definitely ten times better. Definitely a good choice.
