Nine Dragons is a superb takeaway. Along with the standard Chinese fare they have a couple of stand-out dishes. The beef almost brought a tear to my eye: lightly battered, tender meat in a wonderfully tangy sauce. The mixed starter is highly recommended and if you like your Chinese food spicy try the Volcano Chow Mein - it's a chilli sensation!

Holey Moley! What a meal!!

The hunt for a decent Chinese takeaway is over.

We've been looking for a while, tried a few from the menus found in the house and got mediocre at best. Not bad, but not anything worth writing about and not good enough to revisit.

So with no menu, no idea if they do delivery and only the reviews on here to go by, I trundled along to Nine Dragons, fully prepared to nip across the road to Javit's chippy if the signs weren't good.

But the signs *were* good - yay! Place was clean, phones were ringing with orders, several people in the queue, delivery drivers in and out (delivery - woohoo!!), that'll do me.

Humungous choice of dishes on the menu, all the staples, a few more exotics and about a third of the way into the starters, I'm slevvering already.

Placed my order with the nice lady behind the counter, was offered a complimentary starter due to the order being over £19 and even got my prawn crackers thrown in (is there any more tasty food than free food...?). A comforting 15ish minutes later a nice man came through from the kitchen with my stuff and I'm off.

I managed to get home without breaking into the bags. Only just made it with the wafting aromas but I did make it and at the risk of repeating myself....

Holey Moley! What a meal!!

You remember that time when you had a Wagon Wheel for the first time in 15 years and you were gutted at the size...?

That feeling does not apply to the Nine Dragons' special spring rolls. Think the opposite. Imagine the biggest, best spring roll you've ever had, make it a bit bigger, a bit more, and a bit more, and make it tastier and more full of springy roll goodness. And then add 10%. Only then are you getting close. I was no stranger to a spring roll in my formative years and I ain't never had one like this. I should have left a bit. But I didn't.

Ribs were terrific, sauce was barbecue and was rich and sticky with the meat falling off the bone. (The sauce was quite close to an oyster sauce I thought.)

The free chicken wings were very tasty, I'd have been happy to pay for them, but the battered mushrooms were overkill, I had to exercise some restraint and only have a couple, well, maybe three or four. OK, OK!! It was about half a dozen with more of that bbq sauce! But with two servings like that, it still left half the mushrooms in the bag, very generous portions.

The crispy beef is indeed fantastic, the sauce for this one is called chilli sweet and sour and made a nice change from what I've normally had. The other main was salt and spicy shredded chicken. This was a dry dish and probably my favourite of the night, zingy, but not overly so and just the right amount of crunchy. A bonus prawn chow mein, chock full of prawns and the feast was complete.

As mentioned, good portions so it didn't all get eaten (at least not till tidying up time a few hours later).

Might try the delivery next time but tbh, I quite enjoyed going along and having a little walk eased the conscience a smidge about the amount consumed.

Full marks and no hesitation in recommending.

We have just made a complaint about food quality at 'Nine Dragons' Chinese Take Away in Edinburgh (144 West Granton Road, EH5 1PE).

During eating we both recognized that the duck meat was unfresh and had a green and violet colour, which is not normal. Chips were fried twice, once early and again later. They were dry and also unfresh. It is very bad food quality there and potential safety issues.

Rubbish to be honest - don't waste your money! I asked for crispy chilli beef and egg fried rice. What I got was sticky chicken frozen cold with a few burnt carrots.Total waste of money! AVOID. I will never use the Nine Dragons again.

Nine dragons is a superb takeway. The food is amazing - it is the best Chinese we have ever tasted. Really fresh flavours and reasonably priced. Will definitely be back.

Good Chinese takeaway. My boyfriend always buys their bang bang chicken - nice but HOT.

I ordered deep fried chicken honey chilli style with a portion of chips for myself and my partner.

Tasted and looked a little burnt when delivered.

I was famished so decided to munch my way through it. Big mistake! Woke up on the Friday morning with the severest pains in my stomach... only to then run to the toilet with the worst case of diarrhoea ever... one end on the toilet the other over the sink... not a good look for my poor baby that had crawled through to see if his mummy was ok... she wasn't!

We are now on Saturday night and the pains are starting to ease although I'm still running to the toilet every 10 minutes or so.

I urge you not to get a take away from these premises...unless you want to lose a few pounds and feel utterly terrible in the process!

Completely discusting. We couldn't eat - horrible meat which tasted like warmed up cheap meat. The mains were over-cooked and the starters were under-cooked.

Was always a favourite takeaway of mine. No more!

Rice dishes tasted burnt, pork dish was extremely fatty and very oily.

Food did not taste freshly cooked as usual.

I've probably tried 80% of the menu at 9 Dragons! Don't let location put you off this great Chinese takeaway. I recommend the salt and spicy chicken wings to start. Then try the smoked chicken, with plain noodles and BBQ sauce. Can't go wrong here though whatever you have!

Best omelette in town! Having said that I don't like their currys as the curry sauce is so watered down it's like buying from a supermarket - it's tasteless. But chicken is nice - the curry sauce lets it down. Therefore stops me buyin a chicken curry! The staff are so pleasant! Just a pity about their curry sauce!!! What a let-down!
