Spectacular location with views of the Castle to the south and Fife to the north. However, lacks character and feels a little sterile. Food is good but comes at a price. Also, our quiet dinner was slightly disrupted by noise coming from a group in the bar area.

Have to agree with the previous reviewer on many points.

The food is great, but at a price. But with the views that he has mentioned, I think this is how they can get away with the slightly inflated prices.

The doormen can be a tad over zealous at times when all you want is a drink and a quick snack from the bar, but apart from that, I really like the place.

This is a place where the view is expected to bring up the quality of the food.

The menu is poorly described and the food is even poorer. My main course would better have been described as Macaroni cheese when it was in fact a linguini. Awful piece of rubbery smocked haddock on top as well.

Staff are abrupt and service is slow and painful. No check is done on any course and the food is left under the hot lamps for too long.

Go for a drink - avoid the food. I don't mind paying for good food when it's good. I have eaten better when I cooked as a student.

Definitely going back!

Great food, good service. A bit pricey, but was expecting that. Extensive drinks menu, but not many non-alcoholic drinks (this becomes an issue when pregnant!). Try sister restaurant - Roti - round the corner for good Indian food without the price tag.

I love this place. The restaurant is indeed a bit expensive, but the bar menu is also very tasty and better value. Well worth a try if you want something less formal, cheaper and "less of a night out".

I've been loads and have reached the frustating conclusion that the worst time to go is when the weather's good. The frustation is caused by the fantastic views from the roof top terrace being spoiled by the rubbish service. Just get drinks and enjoy the views. Don't waste your time trying to get a decent meal on the terrace! (It's worth noting I'm only talking about the terrace. The swanky eatery inside could be different).

Another gem on the Edinburgh scene. Slightly hidden away on the rooftops above George Street, the views are spectacular for a meal or drinks on the outdoor terrace. Agree with the above reviews that meals in the restaurant can be expensive but worth it.

Bar meals are more affordable and equally tasty. The selection is very good and the list of "specials" almost as big as the menu itself.

Trained mixologists present perfect cocktails from the wide selection on the drinks menu. Since my last visit the bar's the more informal lounging sofas and round bar tables have been replaced with more formal dinner area but the atmosphere remains relaxed and service friendly.

I have been a few times and have actually written to complain about the slow service. I did not even get a reply , but I may now go back to find out if it has imrpoved to an acceptable level. Shame as the food was always quite good.

I've returned many Sunday afternoons to Oloroso for a great lunch. Normally their main cost around £23 each but on Sunday, you can enjoy a three course plus wine for £20. The menu is a reduced selection of the previous week - but it ain't no bubble'n'squeak! The service is attentative and bar staff are enthused about their cocktails.

The food is fantastic and for the price and view, superb, I highly recommend them. Also, their bread is famous. I've only ever tasted bread at two other restaurants as good. Another in Edinburgh (I've forgotten the name) and a bistro/bar in Perth, West Australia.

Totally agree with BPRJ28 who reviewed previously. This place is a great place to take visitors to the city as if you get a good table the location and view can't be beaten. But only if you've got the cash to splash. It's not cheap, and to be honest, the food isn't really worth it. Keep an eye out for offers though - they've been around for a while now and are may be losing their popularity a bit so seem willing to knock the prices down to get people through the door!
