Rainbow Arch, 8-16 Morrison Street, EH3 8BJ, Edinburgh

When my friend suggested we try eating here rather than at his or mine last night I immediately thought of the reports I read a couple of years back of the huge fine Rainbow Arch received from the council for poor hygeine. But then I figured that it probably now has excellent standards of kitchen hygeine as the council will be watching them more closely than ever and they definitely won't be wanting another £18k fine...

We had a decent meal. We had a bunch of dim sum dishes. Neither of us eat out in Chinese restaurants often and our waitress (the owner, perhaps) was very helpful and we just kept ordering dishes until she told us that that would be enough food. She got it pretty much spot on.

The chicken chow mein dish we had was a bit bland but everything else was really tasty. Can't really remember what they all were.

We paid about £32 for loads of food and a few cokes.

I probably won't go back as there are so many chinese restaurants to try and this didn't seem to be anything special.

But not a mouse dropping in sight. So that's got to be worth 3 stars.

As the above mentioned friend, I concur with Andy's views of this place. One thing to note is that when you go downstairs to the toilets you discover that it links to the basement jazz bar next door, presumably you can order food from there.

As Andy says, the dim sum were tasty, but the chow mein was bland. Also there was a rather odd waiter. Whilst the Chinese lady who served us was friendly and knew just what she was doing, there was a white guy who really didn't!

Would I recommend you go to this place? No, if you want a really good Chinese meal go to Ho-mei village in Wellington, Shropshire. It is the best Chinese restaurant I have ever visited.
