Rocket Café, 41 Morningside Road, EH10 4DR, Edinburgh

Rocket is a small and friendly cafe on Morningside Road. It's interior is fresh and bright, with scrubbed tables and light, sparse decor.

It specialises in light-bites and cakes, many of which are home-baked, and does an incredibly good trade in take-aways, which can be a little bit of a bind if you want to sit and read the newspaper in peace and there is a queue of people winding around the tables, but this can't be helped.

The food is usually good quality, although they have had their off days, and I can definitely recommend their filled morning rolls which are served until 12:30.

It's good to see an independent like this doing well, especially as it seems to be owned and run by a fairly young team.

The only drawback is that it has been struck with the curse of Morningside, which is that at various times it is decended upon by the mother-and-newborn set, and you can't move or get a seat for the plethora of massive prams all packed in and crammed up against walls and empty tables. Not, however, anywhere as bad as the groups of new parents that gather at the Starbucks down the road and think nothing of leaving dirty tissues, towels, and even nappies when they leave.

I really hope Rocket does well for itself, it really deserves to.
