Only those with masochistic tendencies should approach the Roseleaf. Perhaps some of the area’s traditional nocturnal visitors might take note.
The Roseleaf gets my first 0.5 star rating because the customer service is by far the worst I have experienced in Edinburgh this year. We booked as part of a large group to celebrate a birthday, and to try the alcoholic tea.
A group of a dozen people, on a wet weekday night, visiting a venue in an area known primarily for prostitution, would ordinarily be welcomed. Certainly by anyone looking to turn a profit.
On our arrival, the birthday girl mentioned to the barman that we had a reservation. His reply was “so”. His delightful manner continued for the rest of the evening with stroppy remarks and ignoring one of my friends at the bar who was clearly trying to order a drink. This was not due to the place being busy, there were barely 30 in the place, rather he was just ignorant.
The pricing of the drinks is insidious, in a manner similar to Tesco. It is often the case in this supermarket that a price for Good A, is beside Good B, which makes the customer think Good B is (artificially) good value. This tactic is used by the Roseleaf, where prices and drinks are arranged in a counter-intuitive manner. The prices seem reasonable, until you get the bill, and realise that the drink you ordered actually cost far more than expected.
The evening was topped off when we were abruptly rushed out at the end, more reminiscent of a West Yorkshire provincial Wetherspoons, than somewhere serving niche expensive drinks.

Been here for dinner twice and for a few drinks. good atmosphere and nice food. Not big selection but still a good place for a bite to eat. Love the decor.
