Sky Bar and Grill, Unit 42, Ocean Terminal, EH6 7DZ, Edinburgh
The first few times we dined at Sky we had simply popped in for a light lunch while the restaurant was busy. The food was good, especially the sandwiches and the chowder (sadly now off the menu), and the service was attentive enough if a little slow. However our latest dining experience there was not one I'd wish to repeat or recommend.
We walked in and waited to be served. And waited. And waited. Two waitresses were chatting over the till and one suddenly seemed to spot us standing by the sign. "Oh, I didn't see you standing there!" she exclaimed. She seated us and gave us menus before leaving... without taking our drinks order. Another fifteen minutes of waiting and we finally had our orders taken. We were both drawn to the description of the green chilli burgers so plumped for these. After our order was taken we waited a good twenty minutes (while everyone around us was served) before any drinks were forthcoming. When the burgers finally arrived they were not spicy in the slightest - certainly not what I'd expect from something advertised as a chilli burger - and the waitress bustled off without asking us if we would like any condiments for our chips. Which were frozen, by the way. Although the burger was nice and meaty it was about as bland as a burger can get. The ciabatta was nice though.
Now I counted two bar staff, six waitresses and three chefs so I doubt they were understaffed. Especially since a couple of the waitresses seemed to spend most of their time standing around talking instead of serving people.
So to sum up:
Mediocre, bland food
Terrible service
We won't be back.

Nice service but the food was terrible. Chilli garlic prawns were burnt and shrivelled. We also had the chilli burgers which were bland and tasted processed and deep fried. I have had a better burger in McDonalds. No chilli apparent. The chips were frozen and I saw the chef open the chip bag with his teeth. I asked if everything was made on the premises and the quick reply was of course, yes. I am not sure if I believe this. I wouldn't blame the staff at all as they were lovely but the management of this establishment need to have better standards and realise that if they think they are making a quick buck they are very naive. I will never go back to this restaurant. Serve 'real' food please and your customers will appreciate it. People are no longer taken in by trendy exciting menus. We want quality produce.
