Slug and Lettuce, Unit 8, Omni Centre, EH1 3BN, Edinburgh

I went here for some dinner and drinks after work one night last week. First impressions were good – I noticed that the restaurant had been renovated since I had last visited and décor was both fresh and bright. However, the disappointment first started when we wanted to order some food. My friend and I sat in the corner and waited (and waited…) for someone to come and take our order. When nobody did, I took the liberty of ordering at the bar; I was supposed to be going to the cinema later on so time was an issue this particular evening. I ordered our wine with the barman but when it came to ordering my food the barman told me I had to wait for the waiter/waitress at our table as it was “table service only”. I explained that we had been waiting for over 15 minutes already and that nobody had even been to ask us for drinks and/or food. The barman then assured me that a waiter would be up to our table to take our order straightaway. Ten minutes later, still nobody had come to take our order and, by this point, I was pretty angry. I went back to the bar and, at the same time, the waiter suddenly appeared and took my order. When the food arrived (I had bruschetta) the portion was generous but it was lacking in taste. My friend’s burger was OK but nothing special and when we got our bill, I was even more disheartened as our “house” glasses of wine had actually cost us nearly £7 each – what a joke!!!

Based on my most recent experience in Slug & Lettuce, I doubt I would return in the future due to the fact that it was damn expensive and secondly, the service was dreadful.
