I went to this gem of a pub last night and had a blast. Thursday night is jam night. No I don't mean you get sample all sorts of Scottish jams, I mean you can take along your fiddle, tin whistle, drum, pretty much any instrument you like, and jam with the rest of the music makers. If you're going to try it, you'd better be good as they can go at a fair lick, so keep up if you can! You won't find any sheet music here, all you'll find is incredibly talented folk, doing what they appear to love. And to go with the eclectic mix of musicians you have the equally plethoric mix of patrons. From poor (yeah right!) students, YPs and their middle aged counterparts, to long bearded retirees, everyone seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves.
From a guy who is generally not into music, the above is high praise indeed. Although this site is a food site, I haven't eaten at the Tick(Tiq?). However, I am reliably informed that they do good old British pub grub up until about 1800h, On Sundays they have a damned good roast. You might ask who reliably informed me... Well, the lovely lady on the other end of the telephone when I rang up. So is the food really good? Who knows, but the craic and banter make it worthwhile finding out, especially on a Thursday.
