The Gallery Restaurant and Bar, Weston Link, National Galleries, EH2 2EL, Edinburgh

I visited this restaurant for lunch during the festival together with 3 friends who were staying in Edinburgh from London. We combined the visit with the Warhol exhibition at the gallery. Therefore we booked the lunch reservation before we went into the exhibition. This was an excellent move because the restaurant was extremely busy by the time we came out. The maitre'd was very attentive and showed us to our table straight away. This gave a very good view of the Princes Street Gardens.

There was an excellent choice of starters mainly vegetarian, and an excellent soup of the day, which 2 of our party enjoyed.

The main courses were varied. These consisted of confit of duck, chicken, salmon and a good selection of salads. The main courses were all priced roughly between £8 and £10.

Being lunchtime, we decided to forego the desserts and opted for coffee, which was reasonable, but not memorable.

Service was very attentive. We had an excellent young waiter and although it was extremely busy, we seemed to be served reasonably quickly.

From the point of view of situation and service, I would definitely recommend the Gallery Restaurant as an excellent lunchtime venue.
