The Harp and Castle, 298-300 Leith Walk, EH6 5BU, Edinburgh

We popped into the Harp and Castle to try out their all day breakfast after some disappointments in another couple of establishments. A few of weeks before we had been passing walking the dog and looked at the menu as you do. The gentleman standing at the door told us that the food was good, and that the daily special, steak pie, was particularly good.

Anyway, nothing ventured, nothing gained so we gave it a go. After ordering drinks we looked at the menu, which is typical pub fare, with the special that Sunday, being roast rib of beef, onion gravy, yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and broccoli, judging by the two large plates that passed us going to a table further down the pub.

We both ordered the full Scottish breakfast. Cooked to order, 20 minutes later we were provided with a plateful of tasty, bacon, crispy as requested, black pudding, sausages, haggis fried egg, tattie scone, hash brown, beans, mushrooms and two slices of toast, Tea or coffee was also included in the price. Everything was really nicely cooked, flavoursome. So much so that neither of us added sauce! Just what you want from an all day breakfast. Friendly service topped it all off. Excellent value at £5.95.
