Excellent pub grub and a good place to stop off if you have just been to Hillend ski slope and subsequently need warmed up. Also, for some reason, the pints of Tennents here taste better than anywhere else in Edinburgh.

The Steading, 118-120 Biggar Road, EH10 7DU, Edinburgh

Visited the Steading with two friends on Tuesday night.

We didn't have starters. The main courses were fish for my friends, one of whom asked for a small portion, and I had the steak sandwich. We also ordered two portions of onion rings. The steak was tender, but the onions could have been more caramelised and the ciabatta roll would have been nicer if warmed or lightly toasted. The fish was nice, but the small portion was very small. Not much actual fish. Everyone's chips were hard and undercooked. Most unappetising and on reflection we should have sent them back. The beer battered onion rings were nice.

We finished with Sticky Toffee Pudding, Caramel Fudge Cake, and Apple Crumble. The advertise Apple and blackberry crumble was off. The Fudge Cake and Crumble were both nice, but the Sticky Toffee Pudding was too much dry sponge and not enough toffee sauce.

Service was prompt when we first went in, but as it got busy became very slow. Everyone was very pleasant.

Including two vodkas and a soft drink the bill came to £60 including tip.

Overall it was okay, but not great.

Duechars perfect! Menu not bad either - had the steading burger with cheese - nice moist and beefy, just what you want from a burger!

Didn't notice any computers though, but I suppose I read the menu correctly. A chilli-cheese pannini, makes me think of spicey cheese not a lovely thick con-carne! Never mind food criticts are normally 50% correct, but reading somebody quoting Little Britain in a review!!!

Hmmm, think you should try The Steading folks, especially on a sunny day, the beer garden is beautiful.

Very disappointed with the service. My husband, grandson and I visited this restaurant on Thursday 22 October 2009 and had to wait a long time to be served our food after ordering quickly. A couple who arrived at the table next to us half an hour or so after us were served their food and eaten it before we had even got ours. When we complained to the waitress she said she would ask the chef what was wrong and get back to us. She did not come back with an explanation and so we filled out a ratings card with my email address on it and handed it to the manager at the bar. We also told him what had happened and he said that he would speak to the staff. I thought that they would at least get back to me with an apology and an explanation. As regular customers there we are disgusted at the way we were treated. The food is quite good but they will need to try harder with customer care.

As an expatriate Edinburgh boy based in Johannesburg, SA, I do try to get back to "The Steading" as often as possible.

I love it.

Good food, great beer - especially the Deuchars - and a wonderful atmosphere make it a tremendous family type dining treat.

Excellent restaurant, excellent food, staff not so good.

A tip for anyone that's not been and likes fish, their fish is amazing - melts in your mouth. I rate it 10/10 for food.

Sorry but I have to rate this low, not for the food but because we didn't get any. Menu is very very limited, I asked for a chilli baked potato, ok so it wasn't on the menu but it had chilli pannini and it had baked potatoes, but the computer said no, so I opted for baked potato with prawns with no marie rose sauce, oops, computer says no. So 2 down and I wasn't going to hang around for the computer to upset me for a third time. Staff weren't too bothered, so Carolyn says no to The Steading!!!

Was really looking forward to my meal at The Steading. Do not know what has happened to this place as it used to be great but the food was terrible. Four of us had steak - it was tough as old boots. The plate had way too much food on it and it looked disgusting. Usually pepper sauce is on top of your steak, ours was served in a dish at the side and it was clearly made from a packet. The menu has also been cut drastically - very limited. Never going again.
