This bar opened tucked away above Cafe Royal at the east end of Princes Street not long before Christmas. We went for lunch on a Saturday in the new year. I'd heard good reports about it as a bar so was looking forward to trying it out for a bite of lunch.
The menu isn't really ideal for a quick, cheap lunch. It's a bit pricey. We both opted for the steak sandwich from the small sandwiches part of the main menu. It was about the cheapest thing at a tenner. There were a few side dishes at the back of the cocktails menu but not enough to constitute a meal.
The food was fine but certainly not exceptional. Nicely presented with the steak arriving between two pieces of toasted bread and packaged up like a parcel in string. The chunky potato wedges looked good but were a too big and a bit bland as a result. The green leaf salad was good though and had a nice honey dressing - no cheap coleslaw in sight.
To drink we asked for a free gin cocktail that we read about in a free magazine. It was vile.
The place certainly looks the part and I'm looking forward to going back in the evening sometime. But I'll give the food and cocktails a miss and get myself a pint!

I have to agree with Andy. I liked the design and ambience of the place but I was a bit disappointed with the menu - I had trouble picking what to eat as there was little that interested me. I ended up having a shrimp stack, which didn't really taste of anything. It was also more expensive than comparable venues.
I would go back to the Voodoo Rooms as it is a nice setting and the cocktails were pretty good but I don't think I would eat there again. They also had a pretty good DJ playing on the Sunday evening that I went.

I went here for dinner last Friday night and it was OK. I had linguini as a main which was fine but nothing special - it was a decent size and hit the spot.
My dining partners had the haddock and chips which they assured me was nice. Mains were approximately £8-£12.
Service was not so great - the girl waitress we had was pretty rude. She seemed confused by the fact we wanted "house wine" and kept acting us to specify - how annoying.. if we wanted to specify we wouldn't have said house wine!
Overall, it was fine, but I wouldn't rush back. Better for some drinks instead.

I went there for a lunch special offer last Saturday and it was a mixed bag. I had the burger which was large and delicious, but all the sandwiches (4 ordered) came with french fries rather than the chunky chips billed on the menu. This was a huge disappointment as they were lukewarm and hinted of something they may have purchased at a famous fast food restaurant around the corner. When we asked the waitress what happened to the chunky chips, as we'd seen the only other dining booth next to us get a plateful minutes earlier, she asked if we wanted to get the kitchen to peel some potatoes and make some up. Maybe we should've said yes.
