We went here the day after opening (it used to be Baroque) for lunch with work. The menu is your usuals such as burgers, bangers and mash, sandwiches etc. with prices ranging from £6-9 really for a main.
Presentation of food is very good and the food was also very good although we had to wait for about 45 mins for it - would put this down to opening teething problems. The burgers take 20 mins to cook but no mention of this on the menu or when most of us ordered. Once they came it was very good though and the chips were amazing! The bangers and mash also looked very good.
In terms of competing with the rest of Broughton Street it may struggle for value for money as most of the other restaurants do 2 courses for £7.50 as well as Baroque who used to do 2 meals for £10.

Treacle is another addition to the myriad fine eateries on Broughton Street, and offers something different and unusual in it's contemporary comfort dining meets Japanese Manga ambience. Think Central Perk designed by Gorillaz.
I'm not sure it works particularly well in the day time, with lit candles on the tables underneath bright ceiling lighting, but I can imagine the mood becomes considerably more appealing as darkness falls, and probably covers up a lot of the shabbiness, which I found quite a surprise for such a recently refurbished place.
The menu is nothing spectacular but it is delivered with charm and elegance, and well prepared. It didn't delight me, but it didn't leave me underwhelmed either. I would, perhaps, have expected a little more for the price.
The waiting staff had a perfunctory nonchalance, although it seemed that the level of service may depend upon whom is servicing your table. But the menus, drinks, and meals were delivered in a timely fashion, so there was no real cause for complaint.
Overall, Treacle seems to know what it wants to be, but isn't really getting there. Which leaves me to think, from the other reviews here, that this is firmly an establishment for an evening eating experience. I hope it manages to stay, given how many good bistros there are in the area, as it does have a certain charm, in its own way.

Went here yesterday for a quick bite to eat at lunch. We'd eyed this place up a few times so finally decided to go in and eat. It has a modern feel but cosy with the chunky wooden tables and candles (yes, candles at lunch time). Treacle was fairly quiet when we arrived but quite busy by the time we left.
We both decided to go for brunch items, I opted for Eggs Benedict with ham (you had alternative options of salmon or spinach) where as my partner had eggs on toast. A note of caution, the menu does say two eggs so when you are asked how you'd like them, this is not a specification of runniness of the yolk (which my partner thought so said just as they come). He ended up having scambled eggs. Although this wasn't too much bother as he still enjoyed them. The eggs benedict was really tasty. The ham was a bit stringy but that's more because it's proper ham rather than the plastic type. The eggs were cooked correctly, the muffin was not soggy and the hollandaise finished the meal off perfectly.
Treacle isn't a bargain as for the above plus a diet coke and coffee came to just over £13 but for the quality, seemed not too unreasonable. The staff were friendly enough if a little on the quiet side. We had a little wait for the food but nothing to complain about. I'd certainly go again.

Gorgeous new bar in Broughton Street. Lovely decore, friendly staff.
Food was a let down, main meal portion sizes were very small and the chicken skewers and nan bread dish was extremely bland. We all left feeling hungry. Was also overpriced for area. Would definitely go back for drinks though.

Was in town for a girlie catch up and thought we would give Treacle a try, and i am so glad we did. The decor or pleasing, the food fantastic (I would recommend the tuna) and the service superb. Would go again. Highly recommended.

Just left Treacle tonight and thought I would write and say what a great time I had. I have been there before for drinks and cocktails and always had a ball. I love it during the week on the sofas or at weekends when it's always buzzing. Love the manga wall and sheep skin rugs and has a cool external area which is great for smokers like me. I was served tonight by Megan (I had to ask her name since I think I love her) and I had the most amazing steak and ale pie and my pal had pork belly with puy lentils - both were great although they did not compare to the deep fried doughnut thing we had for dessert... fantastic! I recommend everyone checks this place out. It is a great addition to Broughton Street. Oh, by the way, Megan - did I mention that I love you?

Was in here for a stag night and it did not meet expectations at all. Set menu - 2 courses for £14 sounds good. But when it takes 3 HOURS to deliver, you've got to question the standard of the place. Others in the group had excellent meals but mine was pretty poor fare - bruschetta took so long to be served it was cold while burger roll for the main was charred, so much so that all the meat tasted of was coal. In fairness to our waiter, he offered an apology by way of running across the street to grab an Irn Bru for us.
Not a good experience, literally left a bitter taste in the mouth.

First time there this evening - great food - attentive service - good atmosphere. Seafood for two a serious winner, salmon not too smoky, crab really fresh & sweet. Me lovely had the fish & chips, homemade chips nice & crispy, 10/10. I had the chicken skewers 7/10. Add a pint & two huge crisp white wines & we escaped for less than £40 - not bad for the trendy end of town!

Stumbled across this bar by accident as I would normally go to The Basement nearby... not any more! Really friendly staff (and dare I say it gorgeous!!!) who defo know their stuff. I'm a vegetarian and I was able to have a few choices to choose from. Had a wild mushroom pie which was brilliant and a tart tatin which I would choose to have as my last meal on earth. Teamed it up with a beer and my partner had a julep which was perfect. I recommend everyone to get down to Broughton Street - I am now hooked, what a refreshing change from the egos and run of the mill food on George Street. Oh and forgot to mention the manga last supper mural - GENIUS!

Dunno what all the fuss is about this place... menu is very basic and served on a mouldy board. I even thought the place looked dirty considering it's fairly new.
