Definitely a place that you could rely on to deliver nice food in good quantity in a pleasant setting.
Mains were comfortably in the £16-22 range. Starters were ok at £5.95+ and desserts were nicely all the same price at £5.
Also it's all very nice if you're sitting upstairs but downstairs is ok at best. The whole place sits 52 people with 34 of them upstairs. They seem to do one sitting in mid-week so there's no rush on you to finish.
As to the food, I had baked brie and tried a scallop from my other half, both of which were very nice. One of our group had what seemed to be the choice starter (chewy beef - which was fab and plentiful). My brie was great but the caramelised onion was a little too sweet.
We were then treated to an interesting sorbet type thingy which was very tasty. My main was the pheasant but we had people having steak, pork, bream and a vegetarian dish. Everyone was very chuffed with their grub. On to desserts, sticky toffee pudding (great) creme brulee (ok, but I think I'm just expecting too much from this dish and am never ordering it anywhere again), cheese (very good) and lavender ice cream (yum).
The wine was tasty and the service was very friendly and helpful.
All in all it came to £275 (incl tip) for 6 of us. Which isn't that bad to be fair. But then, I wasn't paying!
Probably go back, did like it, but I just can't rave about it like the other reviewers. All in all I would recommend it.

Lived in Edinburgh now for 3 years and eat out regulary but never been compelled to write a review before... This new restaurant is simply stunning in all aspects. Service, Decor and above all, food just can not be faulted. Well done.

Having read amazing things about this restaurant online my husband and I booked for Valentines Night as we were on a trip from Ireland to Edinburgh for the week-end. The booking was under the name of Greene - a friend who was good enough to book for me.
We were very disappointed to say the least. We were put downstairs in the very corner facing a wall so the ambiance and decor we expected was completely lost.
For 80 pounds sterling for start, main course and bottle of wine we thought it was overpriced. A very different experience to The Doric Tavern which I had not expected great things from. A similar meal with same bottle of wine was 60 pounds and food was gorgeous with table by the window.
Overall, a disappointing valentines night!

We went last Sept and had a fine night with quality food and service. Paul and Lisa are a delight and make this restaurant special.

We have dined at the Wedgewood twice and both times were very favourably impressed by the delicious, creative, inventive food, the lovely ambience and the superb service. This restaurant is inexpensive when compared to restaurants of similar quality - for example, the food is as good as that at the Rhubarb (Prestonfield House's restaurant) and the wine list just as good, but with much better prices. Some dishes we had that really stand out include the shrimp and chorizo appetiser (the flavours blend into a savoury, spicy mix - you'll want to sop up every bit of the sauce!), the baked brie and chutney appetiser, the venison (better prepared than anyplace else I've had it in Scotland), the gnocchi (best anyone in our party has ever had) and the pheasant breast wrapped in bacon (very flavourful). Privately owned, intimate, tasteful, and small (it's run by a young, personable chef and his wife who use only the freshest ingredients), this is by far our favourite restaurant in Edinburgh.

We have now found our perfect restaurant in Edinburgh. I agree with the previous reader about her comments when comparing this place with the Prestonfield. The food is just as wonderful and a fraction of the price and the staff are much friendlier. Chef Wedgewood even came out to speak to our table of four afterwards. The restaurant was packed and folk were still wandering in off the street. His partner (cannot remember her name ) performed her job as front of house perfectly. Also, all the waiting staff were above average-very attentive and friendly especially the lassie from the west coast who served us. All three courses could not be faulted and the venison and fillet deserve a special mention. One of the other reasons why we would be making it one of our regular haunts is because the portion sizes are adequate. Most of the restaurants of this calible leave us feeling very hungry afterwards eg. Abract, Atrium (wonderful food but a rip-off). The ambience was just right and the temperature of the restaurant too. Soft candle-light and no music-perfect. I cannot wait until I return. It is necessary to reserve. I do not think that it can be compared with pub-grub as one of the readers did! Pub-grub is fine if that is what you want and indeed you can get some super meals but not for a special night out. Well done Chef Wedgewood.
