Zizzi, 1-3 Food Terrace, Ocean Terminal, EH6 6JJ, Edinburgh
After a show at the Festival I went here with a group of work friends. Was it any good? No.
We walked in at about 8pm and were seated immediately - you might think that's that's good when there's six of you, but when you realise you are in a cavernous space within Ocean Terminal (so cavernous that there are two other restaurants within the same area) then it's not so much of a feat. We sat down, and as a large group is want to do, we started to natter. When the waiter came to take our drinks orders I tried to order, put nobody else was paying attention - at this the waiter appeared to take the hump and so walked off. Five minutes later he reappeared and took our order - wine for three, a coke, "what cider do you have?" "no cider", came the Eastern European accent - perfect in an Italian restaurant, so I opted for coke. The final drink was "beer..?" "Peroni" "Just Peroni? Oh, i'll have a Peroni then". As the waiter was walking away he spotted an empty Stella and so held it aloft and pointed at it "Stella", "oh, yes please".
However, the waiter then improved and became most attentive. We ordered starters to share and then only five of us ordered mains. So when the waiter was inputting our choices into the computer, he came back to check that we only wanted five mains. Is this attentive? Or should he have checked before he left the table? I'm not sure.
Anyway, my pizza was reasonable, but nothing to write home about. I wouldn't bother going out of your way to eat here (even if that just means a step to your left as you walk past).

After being dragged arround Ocean Terminal all day I quite look forward to a meal in Zizzi before the long drive home.
It's in no way an intimate dining experience, with several restaurants competing for the same floorspace & marking their territory with wooden fences! The staff don't do the place any favours either, I assume this is the first waiting job most of them have had too so it's a no frills service.
The food is what keeps me coming back though. After walking through the doorway i can be sat down enjoying my meal with a glass of wine within 20 minutes! The pizzas always taste great and have a distinct 'hand-made' look about them and if i can be swayed from the pizza menu it will be for their Carbonara pasta, lovely!
I'm inclined to agree with jwjlewis; this isn't the kind of place you would travel to, but if you're after a quick bite before you head home, this definitely gets a thumbs up from me!

Zizzi, 1-3 Food Terrace, Ocean Terminal, EH6 6JJ, Edinburgh
Went to Zizzi yesterday which was a Saturday afternoon. Will not be returning to the OceanT restaurant although would maybe try the others.
On arrival we waited 5 mins to be seated while staff looked at us, didn't acknowledge us and carried on putting cutlery on tables. Finally a very grumpy man came over and greeted us with a frown, took us to a table next to the window. Another frowning staff member took our order and walked off with no thankyou, smile or anything.
About 3 screaming teary children got sat at the table next to us, we asked the grumpy waitress if it was ok if we moved table as we couldn't hear each other. She said yes and we moved to a table closer to the bar. Had our starter which was ok, and 40mins later we were still waiting for our main courses.
I stopped a waitress and asked if our food was nearly ready, (tables of 8 who had come in after us were receiving their food and we were still waiting), she went to check and 5 mins later told us it would be ready in 2 mins. I stopped her again to ask if there had been a problem with the kitchen getting our order.
She told us because we had moved tables the waitress had thrown away our order. What???!!! We asked the waitress if we could move, she moved our cutlery, our starter arrived - but somehow the rest of our order got thrown in the bin.
When the food did arrive it was alright but nothing special. Upon leaving I heard someone outside telling their mother that staff in Zizzi get paid less than minimum wage and have it made up to min wage with tips. This is a shocking way to treat staff. However if they did occasionally smile and look semi interested we would have left a tip.
Alright food but the staff let it down. Avoid the Ocean Terminal Zizzi, the others are supposed to be much better.
