The food here is disgusting waste of money! There are better Japanese restaurants than this place, like Sushiya and No.1 Sushi Bar!

Attended late on a Sunday evening with my partner and a friend. We were greeted with a list of dishes that were not available. It's understandable that a restaurant may run out of certain supplies, however, if it is open for business it should have a decent selection. Despite this we decided to order three dishes after tailoring our choices to what the restaurant had left in the kitchen. When the food arrived out it was just thrown on the plates with no consideration for presentation. In addition to this my partner was informed that a chef had dropped his dish on the kitchen floor. After waiting patiently, the dish arrived and had clearly been rushed in preparation and tasted as such. I ordered penne pollo - adjusted from the description on the menu - the meal was cold on arrival and barely edible. Our waiter was sympathetic to our concerns and service was decent. On the other hand, the manager was defensive and clearly knew we were unhappy with our meal but didn't seem to care. After the bill was paid, I mentioned to the manager that the food was terrible however she was not accommodating or understanding in any way whatsoever. She was very rude. I would not recommend this restaurant to any one who is looking for an enjoyable meal.

Giuliano's on the Shore
1 Commercial Street, EH6 6JA, Edinburgh
from Julian Young (14%) on November 16th, 2008 (2 weeks ago)
Been twice, went the second time just in case the first time was a bad choice of food, awful on both occassions. Terrible cooking, poor food, re-heated rubbish. The only thing this place is good for is some good old Italian banter and service. Would recommend steering well clear, there are far better Italian restaurants to visit.

The Dell Inn
27 Lanark Road, EH14 1TG, Edinburgh
from hairymary (17%) on October 10th, 2008 (1 month ago)
Myself and my family were last in the Dell Inn on Mother's Day this year. We had had a pleasant family walk through Colinton Dell and decided to end the walk with coffee/juice in the Dell Inn. When we arrived, there were about seven or eight empty tables. However, we were told by an embarrassed barman that he couldn't serve us drinks! The "Manager" who was extremely abrupt and rude, reiterated this by saying they were only serving customers who were ordering food! No attempt at a compromise was made by him. Considering the past problems this establishment has had, I would have thought that a much better effort would have been made by the management to encourage customers to enjoy their Dell Inn experience! Sadly this was not the case, and neither myself, family or any friends I have told this sorry tale to will be returning, unless we are assured that the premises are under new management!

The Dell Inn

The dell inn was far from impressive. The food was awful, sloppy and tasteless, the staff were rude particularly the older couple that I assume are managers or owners. Their attitude stank and the awful food was over priced. I shall not return nor shall I ever recommend it to anybody.

Bigos
277 Leith Walk, EH6 8PD, Edinburgh
from Jules (17%) on September 24th, 2008 (2 months ago)
Having read a rather poor review of Bigos on another website, I still decided to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt and try it out. Well, believe me, I wish I had listened to the reviewer whom, I now believe, had not rated it poor enough. It's not as if I'd gone to the restaurant with high expectations. I merely expected some half-decent home-cooking. However, I have never been so disappointed with restaurant food as this. You may well ask, "What'd you expect for £7 for two courses?". Well, for a start, I would have expected sometime as simple as serving soup to be done properly. The soup of the day (tomato with spaghetti through it) was tepid and served without bread. The cheap 'flat' spoon made eating the soup a frustrating experience with the spaghetti splashing back into the bowl. Thankfully, a paper napkin (all be it, the cheapest you can possibly find on the planet!) was provided.
But still, I thought, I have the house specialty of Bigos to come. The menu describes Bigos as a "dish made of sauerkraut with a variety of meats, red wine and mushrooms". Mmm... sounds delicious. However, my heart sank when I was presented with a large plate with a dollop of what can only be described as very cheaply 'tarted up' sauerkraut. At least that part of the description was accurate. The only meat I could find amongst the sauerkraut was some quartered pieces of Polish sausage which could not have amounted to more than a whole slice about half an inch thick when whole. There was absolutely no sign of any other promised variety of meats through the dish nor a flavour of red wine and mushrooms. To add insult to injury, the whole dish looked as though it had been sitting for days in the kitchen, just waiting for a gullible customer. A half-slice of the most inferior white bread was served per diner with the main course. The bread was stale and no butter was offered. There is no excuse for serving poor bread when there is an abundance of good Polish delis on Leith Walk selling great bread.
At the end of the meal, the bill was presented with a complimentary 'After Eight' mint which tasted as though it had been sitting in its box since last Christmas!
I now understand why this restaurant, which didn't have an ounce of ambiance by the way, had no other diners when we arrived at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. I am by no means a food-snob, but this has to rank as one of my worst dining experiences ever. In summing up, I'd recommend taking your business elsewhere. A pie and a pint in any of the local pubs is haute-cuisine by comparison.

Buffet King
6a Nicolson Street, EH8 9DH, Edinburgh
from Chris (17%) on September 3rd, 2008 (3 months ago)
The Good: there's a lot of food.
The Bad: it's cold and of very poor quality. If a shortage were announced by Pedigree Dog Food, I would expect it was because Buffet King had taken all the stock. It really is that bad!
The manager has an attitude problem too. Apparently if the food is crap that's the customer's fault.
